That is sad!  There was another incident just in last week I will try to get more info on, about an arson fire at one of the fire stations in Southern California, generally in that area, that destroyed some kind of outside structure.  I hope we do not have some strange series.  I will follow-up soon with more info.

the fire took truck 61, battalion 8 usar  support 61 and a zodiac inflatable boat used for water rescue, engine 61, (on a reserve engine ) was not consumed and was used in the firefighting effort.  there were already plans to replace this station in the very near future, around the corner from where it is now, looks like the plans will be accelerated now. the other incident that rescue 51 was referring to was in apple valley, where a fire station out building was destroyed, the arsonist was apprehended near the scene

I think this is due to the change from survivair which became sperian which was purchased by Honeywell.. Newer red bottle is with the newer Honeywell label, the one to the right is survivair, and the one to the left is sperian all the same company with different branding dependant on age.

All R/M-own 911 rigs in Maricopa and Pinal counties in AZ have been remarked to AMR. Interfacility/GT are being branded as Lifeline Ambulance.

Just spotted one of these rigs on the road marked as M26, is this the start of a Rural/Metro transition to AMR?

Our squads here in the City are staffed by 4. An officer and 3 firemen. Historically, our squads haven't had bells. As a whole, our engines and trucks have bells as a traditional  thing and as a last ditch effort if all other warning devices fail. We elected to NOT have chevrons put on as stated above, its just a strong recommendation. We have the short wheel based rigs due to our geographical area [ hills, tight streets, etc]. Hope this helps.

Chevrons (red/yellow) are required to be NFPA compliant.  If the truck does not have them installed or are different colors when built then most manufacturers will make the department sign a waiver stating that the apparatus does not meet NFPA requirements.
We are going through a similar situation right now, previous engine built by Manufacturer A in 2014 has the red & yellow chevron to meet NFPA, actual color of the yellow scotchlite is "Lemon Yellow".  No issues.
Currently having a ladder built by Manufacturer B, they want us to sign a waiver because "Lemon Yellow" in not yellow per the NFPA list.  Last I checked yellow was yellow but they are taking a literal translation that "yellow" scotchlite (looks more orange) is the only yellow allowed because NFPA just says yellow (not lemon yellow).  We pulled the data sheet and Lemon Yellow actually out performs the regular Yellow.  We will see what happens with this as we are pushing back on it.

Dear Seth & Team, thank you for providing us this forum to exchange information/ideas.  Merry Christmas to you and may 2016+++ be most blessed.  Do not get discouraged if you see a lack of activity on posts, I find many more people read them than comment, though I encourage everyone to participate here as a dynamic exchange is positive.  I need to contribute more often to your Facebook page too.

Hoping Santa brought you a brand new Pierce ladder truck!

Bid for both LAFD US&R and HR were awarded this week.  Pierce won the new US&R Rig and Miller Industries Sister Company on West Coast won the HR bid.  Same builder built the last two HR's.

Don't expect these anytime, build time is ~ 12 months.  Look for them to arrive at the shops around summer of 2016.
