The CVC is so outdated. All public safety vehicles should have red and blue lights, front and back. It's much more visible at night than just red, which blends in with traffic. Time to get with the times Chipies!

It looks like Chula Vista is also getting a new USAR.  From what I read they are going to try to match SDFD USAR 2, 41 setup.  Get to love the black rims why you are at it.

New pumper will be a PUC on an Arrow XT cab/chassis. Unknown as of now which station it will go to. Squad 6 has decreased run volume on both E6 and T6 significantly, as it is first out on most low and moderate acuity medical calls.  E206 has been running because T6 was involved in a serious accident in early December. It is currently being repaired at the Pierce facility in Ontario with an ETA of 3-4 months.

USAR 4 was moved to brand new station 2 and became USAR 2, station 4 now a single Engine house. Both stations are downtown and not very far from each other.

Hi Mesabill, I suspect T6 spends so much time in shop as it still rolls on too many medical aids.  Though the run demand on T6 has gone down with the addition of Squad-6 (in 2018?), all those years and too many NLS/BLS/ALS runs, beat-up the truck.  NLS is my new term: Non Life Support or the "frequent flyers" who may not be able to afford the taxi cab, or Uber.

Those LAFD triples are heavy duty, so going to 6 or 8 makes sense.....any word why Truck 6 spending so much time in shop?

    Howdy folks!

SDFR has a new Pierce Pumper for Engine 3 (In Little Italy for those who live in SD)
    Nice looking rig.
If you notice the new engine has a newer Model Whelen Lightbar instead of the Whelen Delta Lightbar.

Thanks @Rescue51, your message and offer is greatly appreciated. And thank you everyone for their patience and loyalty.  I think we should be good to go without any interruptions now, and I've used the ads to be able to pay the hosting costs from this point forward.
I feel that, while FB has destroyed many other similar forums, that this forum has a strength in being able to find apparatus news in a central place, and being able to quickly refer back for updates.

El Cajon ran a fleet of ALF engines (and maybe a truck?) when I was growing up there in the 80s.  Just seeing an ALF in El Cajon brings back memories

  18. firepost liked a post in a topic by Rescue51 in Question about SDFR and platforms
I think a mixture of platforms and straight ladders is the way to go in San Diego.  Platforms are safer for FF's at top, are better to affect raised rescues.  TDA's are good for maneuverability as mentioned above.  i believe the TDA's have more storage capacity great for storing all the rescue tools these days.  The newer Pierce Ascendant might offer attractive possibilities/performance with its single rear axle and 107 foot ladder, or option of 110 foot platform.  Though you lose storage space.  Also, time will tell how the Ascendant holds up with miles/wear & tear due to the heavy weight on chassis, suspension, etc..

BR46 belongs to San Miguel.  Since BR14 is out of the county, they are utilizing a reserve Brush out of 14's.  San Miguel's Ferrara Rescue (Old R18) is lettered as R46 and the E-One Rescue/Light and Air is now LA46.  The reason why they went with 46, is because it can be housed at any station in the district without changing the numbering. And if you know the Central Zone's numbering, 46 belongs to San Miguel.

The new Truck 50 has arrived and this week crews have started the in-service training on the new apparatus. This 2018 Rosenbauer 104’ aerial tower will replace the current T50, a 1998 Central States 104’ aerial tower. There have been many changes over 20 years in these trucks and all CAFMA crews will receive a significant amount of training on the operations of the new truck before it is placed into service at Station 50.
The crews at Station 50 are very excited about the new truck and they all played a big role in developing the specifications for the new apparatus. The new T50 has a 1500 gallon per minute pump and a 300 gallon water tank.
There is much work still left before placing it into service besides the in-service training. This includes mounting of all equipment and the installation of IT/Communications equipment. We will have more information and updates in the future as we get closer to the ceremony that will be held at Station 50 to officially place it into service within the next few months.

Rescue 51 I have noticed that also and I'm not from San DIego but I am a fan of the San DIego fire department and I know that the San Diego Fire Department was one of the few West Coast fire departments that was still using some Aerial Platforms in the late 1990's and the early 2000's. At one time they did own  4 Tower Ladders and they had a Snorkel running as Truck 14. When they went to solid red fire engines and started buying their current Pierce Aerial Ladder Trucks they have seemed to forgo purchasing any Tower Ladders or Snorkels. I know that San DIego was having serious financial problems and budget shortfall's during the recession and I also know that San DIego was running behind in building new fire stations however over the last few years it is attempting to catch up with buiding some newer stations that have been called for. Perhaps they were only buying straigtht aerials  because they were on a tight budget and the straight aerials were less money then a Tower Ladder. They also could have had some weight problems with thier tower ladders and  they could have had some clearence problems on some of the streets or in some of the fire stations.
This is only speculation however as I am not from San Diego.

It's  good to see that  at least some fire departments near San Diego still use Aerial Platforms.
