That was a great video! Maybe just me, but it looks weird to me to have the only main rotator light be amber. They had some interesting apparatus back then, though. I was born in '75. It'd be interesting timewarping back to that year and being my actual age now.

OK that was fantastic!  I noticed on the board they showed the equipment using what they use today - E5, T14, etc but when they dispatched them to a call it sounded like they were using 4 digit IDs.  I know when I first started listening to El Cajon in the late 70s / early 80s most of the county was using 4 digit IDs but did San Diego use them on a regular basis too?

  4. Rescue51 liked a post in a topic by diamond682 in Question on Heartland Fire & Rescue truck use during rescues
All rescue calls (surface street, freeway, confined space, etc) within HFR's jurisdiction receive one truck and one "rescue capable" unit on the initial alarm.  All trucks in the central zone are also typed as "rescues" in the eyes of the CAD.  So a rescue in El Cajon might pull T6 as the closest truck, and T4 as the closest "rescue capable" unit.  Alternatively, a rescue in La Mesa might pull T11 as the closest truck and SND T10 as the closest "rescue capable" unit.  This is why you sometimes see two trucks assigned to a rescue call.  If there are multiple extrications to perform or the rescue is very complex, you have the added manpower and equipment of a second unit.  SQ6 is also assigned to any rescue in El Cajon and responds with T6, making a five person truck company, (3) on T6 and (2) on SQ6.

AMR M430 will operate 7 days a week from 1000-2200 and will be staffed with one EMT and one medic.  M440 is also staffed with one EMT and one medic and operates from 0800-2000.  The other three medic rigs are 24 hrs and have dual medic staffing.

Looks like station 6 now has 2 medics just like station 8 bringing the total amount of medics in El Cajon to 5 during the peak hours of the day. I'm curious to see if this is a permanent unit that will run during the peak hours like M440 or if this is just some sort of temporary unit. CSA69 is supposed to be bringing in a 5th medic too which would really bolster the transportation numbers for Santee, Lakeside and El Cajon as mutual aid from AMR has been running into the 3 jurisdictions quite a bit lately.

Talk about a walk down memory lane - I do remember that!  From what seems like forever ago   Weren't they still using low band at that point as well?  (Before moving to UHF)

That engine is a one of a kind 1996 Ford Cargo Model-11. Similar look to the Mack Model 9. The big giveaway is no crew cab. The entire 3 person crew sits in the front seat "Three Amigos" style. Was assigned to Tehama Glenn Unit. Sold in 2014.
  9. Rescue51 liked a post in a topic by EMT_FS46 in Question about SDFR and platforms
Platforms are not really a big thing for most California departments. Seems like only some of the smaller departments have them.

In regards to mid-mounts I believe the big attraction is they have a lower overall height. With east coast departments having older fire stations with lower app bay heights, it's the only aerial they can fit in their station.
    Although Escondido has a mid-mount.

The incident involved two overturned vehicles with one having multiple people trapped. The initial dispatch was 4702, E25, E26 and M45, but shortly after 4702 arrived he upgraded it to a vehicle rescue which added E3 and T6 to the call. I guess the CAD pulled E3 first before looking for a rescue thus not pulling R3 but instead T6, they noticed the mistake and requested R3 respond instead of T6.

In a dramatic show of just how fractured the relationship is between the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and the San Diego Lifeguard Association, 76 of 102 permanent lifeguards voted to form their own department called the “Marine Safety Department,” and leave the Fire-Rescue Department.

What would this do regarding, say, the Toyota arrangement? And overall, is it better for a lifeguard service to be attached to a fair department or does it depend? Anybody follow this situation closely?

The Torrance Fire Department has been approved to purchase three (3) 2018 Dodge RAM 4500 cab and chassis vehicles with refurbished paramedic rescue bodies from Phenix Enterprises in the amount of $421,899.12. They also were approved to purchase one (1) new 2018 Dodge RAM 4500 rescue vehicle as well. The new vehicles will replace one reserve (2000 Ford E-350) and three frontline rescue vehicles (2005 Ford E-450, 2005 Ford E-450, 2008 Ford E-450). The 2008 Ford rescue which has 66,693 miles is non-operational due to diesel engine damage. The new units will be unleaded gasoline vehicles.
Apparently the ambulances that they purchased and were testing out were not favored and they are bringing back the squads.

SMG just recently leased a piece of property at 723 E. Bradley where they plan to house E19 at a temporary station, i'm not sure when they will move to the new location but I would imagine some time soon, SMG has also come to an agreement with OES to take OES292 into their fleet.

Glad to see them getting some new rigs. They had a tiller at Sta. 5 back in 90s, but always seemed like an odd place for it (downtown makes sense), but I don't see the need for 2 TDA's.  They got 4 more engines coming the beginning of next year.
