I would imagine it would be placed in service as the new E4.  If this happened about a year ago, I would say the older Dash would be sold. However, in light of the string of fires that popped up in May, I imagine the Dash will be kept as another reserve.  At one point, I believe Heartland had (2) Type 1 Strike Teams out in addition to (1) Type 3 Strike Team outside the Central Zone.  With San Miguel no longer with Heartland (for the time being), it put a strain on staffing and resources in the area.  But that is another topic for later discussion.  A lot of the departments within Heartland have been keeping reserve Engines longer then they have before and are now staffing these rigs when units are out of the Zone.

It appears as though this new Engine is an Arrow XT.  It appears that the only difference between the current Engine 5 (I believe a 2012 ? Arrow XT Engine) and this new Engine, is the "boxes" on top of the cab that I believe are the Air Conditioning units.

I would imagine the next rig to be replaced in Santee would be the Truck.  This is my own opinion, but I think it will be best to spec the Truck to be a TDA with a Tank and Pump, and with a pre-plumbed waterway.  This way, when the Engine is out of the Zone, the Truck would be able to cover it's district with suppression capabilities.  This is something San Diego City did when they spec'd out the 4 new Trucks they received awhile ago.

Speaking of new Brush rigs, be on the look out this summer for (2) HME Type 3 Engines to be delivered to San Miguel.  Should be delivered about late August, early September.  They will be Model 34D Engines.  Alpine is also due for a new Type 1 that was awarded to KME last I heard.  And lastly, Lakeside's remaining (2) Type 1's should be delivered here anytime soon.

Recently I've seen a couple L.E. patrol vehicles roll up on their red, slow, quickly activate light bar, accelerate and then de-activate code lights.  I believe we call this Code-2 High.  Recently a San Diego Police patrol officer cut off a motorcyclist using that technique.  The motorcyclist t-boned the new Ford Explorer patrol car, and motorcyclist died at scene.  Lots of times department policy or supervisor will limit how many patrol units can respond Code-3, so others wanting to also cover the call, use the Code-2 High technique.

Have a few to contribute, but can't figure out how to with only 2kb available.

Mostly old school stuff. Older Phoenix brush trucks, when they were skid units mounted on Chevrolet 30 single-cab dually pickups, prior to being replaced by the Dodge W350 chassis trucks. One picture I have to find that I have is of Brush 33 as a Mercedes Benz Unimog.

it is always better to go to the next exit and make the turnaround, that is protocol in most depts. here in orange county and is done for a number of safety reasons  1 . most of the newer rigs are 100 inches wide or more with full length doors  which means you need to be off the wall at least 2-3 feet on the engineers side in order to exit the rig.this will put the rig not only in one lane but partially into another. 2 . your captain and ff on that side need to exit into traffic. 3  you do not have any protection for your ff's treating the patients on the opposite side, I don't trust a chp or pd cruiser blocking traffic. most depts. in the oc run duel response so you will have 1 unit each direction this allows the other unit to make the turnaround without delay in treatment

I have heard information that I have not seen reported. It is still hearsay so consider this to still be rumor. I don't know if the accident was north or southbound so let's assume northbound. The engine where the engineer was detained had parked in the number 1 lane of the southbound 805. It was not apart of the accident scene but was causing a hazard on the southbound side. The CHP officer asked the engineer 3 times to move the engine because it was a hazard to the southbound traffic. I don't know why the engineer did not comply. I can still see egos involved and it never should have escalated to the point of the engineer being detained but it happened. I can at least somewhat understand the officer's frustration.

Not sure but there is changes comming.  Rural Fire District in south east San Diego County is suppose to vote to join the County fire Authority, but there is some resistance.  Appraently, Julian did not choose to join and may have lost some money.  The other thing I have herd was that some volunteers have been pushed out(rumor) and there isn't the satffing as promised.  The east county fire fighters are having a hard time because they believe that the idea is to push them out in favor of paid staff.  However they contend the paid staff isn't there.

a few years back the la county sheriffs captured a presuit bad guy . the chp was also on scene . this was in the sheriffs jursidiction and their bust . the chp argued that it was their arrest . and the 2 departments began arguing who should take the perp to jail . the funny thing is the chp has no holding cells at their station here in santa clarita . they book all prisoners at the LASD station . to continue  both departments got into a very heated argument. from what i was told by a deputy they almost came to blows . i am still not sure who took the guy to jail ! so captians from both departments also got into it . finally sheriff baca and the chp top guy had to step in .  the prisoner must have been freaking out . no one got hurt .  true story !

years ago when i worked for an ambulance company , i was chased down on a code 3 call transporting for LACoFD . this officer pulled us over wanting to know where we going in such a hurry . i explained we were in route to an emergency call . the officer followed us to the sceen . then departed when he saw the fire dept. on sceen and we pulled out our gurney . i have also seen on you tube videos in other states of fire fighters being arrested for this same thing .  i dont get it ! sceen safety is priorty one .  in my opinion the CHP is way out of line. we are all on the same team . the job is dangerous enough with CHP pulling this stunt . why wasnt the CHP helping to secure the sceen to help clear up the TA asap .instead of hasseling the FD .

I don't think he needed a directive from a higher command , the law is on the books and usually officers don't need permission to enforce. there are officers that are by the book people, they have no life and as such study the penal code and motor vehicle code books from front to back, top to bottom and enforce every rule in it. I have seen chp officers pull fire rigs out on company inspection into the roadside inspection sites and go over the rigs with a fine tooth comb.  most le officers get along with fire dept personel   and as such everything flows smoothly. but I am sure there  are officers out there that have an ax to grind with the fd's. something we will just have to deal with when it happens

Too bad, ALF had a real legacy.  It seems Pierce has fought the competitive wars and has solid grounding.  It seems to me KME is trending up in $ales though still needs to work out some quality issues.  I am not sure where E-One is going, it seems they have been fairly flat though I hope to see them sell well.  Spartan, Seagrave, Sutphen, Ferrara, and Smeal seem to all be that next tier of manufacturers.

A bit of interesting recent history on ALF from Wikipedia, I was hoping they were gonna survive:

"In 1995, the company was bought by Freightliner LLC, which is a subsidiary of Daimler AG. Freightliner continued to utilize American LaFrance's original nameplates and designations including the Eagle custom chassis. Many of their Liberty products are built on Freightliner LLC M2 or Sterling Acterra chassis. ALF has additional manufacturing facilities in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Sanford, Florida, and Hamburg, New York. As of 2005, they are the fifth largest manufacturer of emergency vehicles in North America.

"In December 2005, it was announced that Freightliner had transferred the ownership of American LaFrance to the New York-based investment firm, Patriarch Partners, LLC. The headquarters and main plant in Ladson, South Carolina were not included in the transaction. However, Patriarch Partners were allowed to use the plant until early 2007, when DaimlerChrysler began using the plant for assembly of the Dodge Sprinter. Under new ownership ALF relocated within the Charleston, South Carolina, area in summer 2007 to a brand new facility, including manufacturing and corporate HQ, with nearly 500,000 sq ft (50,000 m²) of total space.

"On January 28, 2008, American LaFrance filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection blaming problems with implementation of a new IBM enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.[2] On July 25, 2008, the company emerged from bankruptcy with a revised business plan to transfer the firetruck body building portion of the business to the remaining Hamburg, NY, (formerly RDMurray Inc.) and Ephrata, PA, (formerly Ladder Towers Inc.) facilities. The Summerville, SC plant continued to manufacture fire truck cab and chassis, but focused on vocational vehicles and the Condor vehicle line. On January 17, 2014, the company announced it was ceasing operations.[3]"

Do you know much detail on the new "patrol" rig soon to go into service at 2's in Lakeside?   Other interesting things in Heartland Fire & Rescue is the new El Cajon Pierce E6 was just placed into service, and I believe then new rescue-pumper (Pierce) for La Mesa (E12) should be delivered, if not already.  Thx.

This is old San Miguel OES 305 that used to belong to East County Fire then moved to Station 22 after the merger. Since San Miguel became part of Cal Fire, the department lost it's 2 OES Engines (305, 307). Lakeside has now acquired OES 305 which will be stationed at Station 26 in Blossom Valley and crossed staffed with E26. The old BME brush engine (BR26) is now at Station 1 as Brush 1 due to the arrival of the OES at Station 26.
