great looking rig. Cabover is a great idea, it shortens the length and great for visibility and 6x6 can almost go anywhere.

I gotta give Neal Thomas credit for being tenacious. He suffered through about 75 hours of testimony at the AZ DHS hearing before the administrative law judge. The judge and AZ DHS protected R/M's monopoly and refused to issue a CON to Mr. Thomas. Maricopa County is the 6th largest metro area in the US. Hospitals, nursing facilities and others in metro Phoenix must use R/M for interfacility transports. They have no alternative. Pathetic!

They only use them on days when the city expects large crowds of visitors. It makes it easier for them to get on the pier and tight places instead of an engine. They respond alone to medical calls and Americare still provides the hospital transport
    Hope this helps.

I was wondering has SMFD gone back to using there 2 paramedic squads. Squads 1 & 2. I Seen one of them during the L.A. marathon and thought maybe they just was using it for the event. Then today I seen one responding code 3 to a medical call

1965.  the mechanics do have their prefrences  and you are correct most probally prefer straight beam suspension. that being said the mechanics are not the ones driving the rigs on emergency responses thru crowded congested city streets. we all know how the public drives here in so-cal and most engineers will tell you that the tak 4 makes a huge difference
  24. x635 liked a post in a topic by 1965 in LAFD New Tiller Bid
It's true...if given a choice mechanics prefer a straight beam/leaf spring suspension.  All you have to do is look underneath a rig with TAK-4 and a straight axle to see what they mean.  TAK-4 greatly restricts access to the bottom of the engine and all it's pieces, parts, hoses, etc.   My agency runs nothing but Quantums and they all have straight axles.  Mothership Pierce was quite surprised to hear us not choose their torsion bar wonder and go with an old-school setup but a happy mechanic is a happy life.

Recently I've seen a couple L.E. patrol vehicles roll up on their red, slow, quickly activate light bar, accelerate and then de-activate code lights.  I believe we call this Code-2 High.  Recently a San Diego Police patrol officer cut off a motorcyclist using that technique.  The motorcyclist t-boned the new Ford Explorer patrol car, and motorcyclist died at scene.  Lots of times department policy or supervisor will limit how many patrol units can respond Code-3, so others wanting to also cover the call, use the Code-2 High technique.
