Not true. A Quint can only carry as much equipment as weight is allowed. Quints cannot carry all engine co equipment or truck co. Therefore you loose something. Quints are heavy and repairs are more often than a standard truck or engine. With a Light Force you have a complete Truck and Engine Co. LAFD tried a rearmount and Tiller Quint. Never again!

I hate to burst your bubble joeky48 but Pierce is capable of building crappy apparatus.  Cab roofs are not weak and leaking, the trailer decking is weak and water is leaking into the compartments.  That is just one of the items on a laundry list of problems with the new trucks.  Sad thing is the list of items were brought up to Pierce months ago with very little support to correct them.  Now, all six will be going back to Wisconsin for the required repairs.  As far as the turntable, that is a Pierce design.

Last week,  I had the opportunity to check out the new LAFD Heavy Rescue 56. What an impressive rig!!
2016 Peterbilt 567  with a Century 50 Ton Rotator (can be remote controlled) and body, 10KW generator, and air compressor syste,m, amongst many other customizations.
This rig replaces a similar rig, a 2003 Peterbilt/Century, which will become a fully equipped spare. The spare is replacing the former spare, which will be kept in the USAR caches.
Thanks again to the crew at Station 56 and the HR56 guys!

County received three kme hazmat tractors and one kme usar tractor.  See below for pics of each.  Usar tractor has the "US&R" designation on the raised roof.

The man who told me about the roof and turn table would not spread rumors. LAFD has a strick and sometimes over the top requirements when it comes to the bidding. Pierce actually didnt want the bid but LAFD made a sweet deal in a long term relationship.

I found out that some of the reason's not in service are... The cab roofs where weak. When Pierce strengthen them now they leak. Also the turn table was not built to LAFD speck.

This is something that Pierce can't afford to do (meaning have so many Trucks that don't meet the specs). The LAFD city contract can be quite lucrative and Pierce was lucky to get the contract so they really better make good on it quickly. I would figure that they would have had better quality control at PIerce especially after they were able to develop a sterling reputation to become the number 1 fire apparatus manufacturer. Here KME which wasn't known for quality service and American La France going out of business I would think that Pierce would be a lot more careful that they were able to get back into the LA market with the Aerial Ladder contract. In the late 90's and early to mid 2000's LA city was getting alot of their new Engines from Pierce and to be frank I am under the impression that the reason why they started buying from KME is because the city finances were so poor that they started going with a cheaper product. The last thing that LA City and Pierce needs is a bunch of Trucks that are not in good shape.

guys , don't believe everything you hear. pierce is the # 1 fire truck builder in the us as well as overseas. there are literally hundreds of rigs turned out by pierce every year and have never had a rig returned for a weak roof. the process for cab manufacturing is the same for every rig that pierce turns out, there is no special process for la city so if it was truly a problem with the cab roofs it would be a problem with every rig pierce has turned out across the board.  as for the turntable issue, it could be  a change order that city submitted after the rigs were completed, happens all the time, new innovations, better parts,  I have also heard it is a problem with the bean counters at city hall

I'll have some photos of it that I got yesterday  up on here soon.
The old one will be a fully equipped spare, that can go into service without any equipment transfer. The older one will be a reserve.

Yes 'E0001' , thanks for posting the link to those photos.   To 'x635' I could be wrong but believe Escondido may have recently taken a delivery of a Sutphen.  I know their older pumpers are Sutphen (if I have this right, and the right agency).

That is one interesting rig.  Pierce delivered to Lyondell Chemical, for Colorado and/or Texas.   I assume that large enclosure is for firefighters to remain protected from any possible chemical exposure while operating the monitors.  Wonder what the GPM capacity is of that beast?  Note the large deck gun then the monitor towards the rear of the rig.

Thanks for that information 'joeyk48'.  I did not know that other incident of arson was Apple Valley, thought it was closer to O.C..  Glad they got the suspect in-custody on the Apple Valley incident.
