Long Beach FD 3 new KME Pumpers

9 posts in this topic

Looks like Long Beach has joined the KME family.  I may have read the caption wrong but the KME Facebook page says,

Long Beach Fire Department is KME's Rigs of the Weekend. Featured are 3 of the 6 Severe Service custom pumpers headed to Cali. See more on these rigs at http://bit.ly/2amR6tm. Make this weekend a great one!  So, they may be getting 6 new KMEs.

Long Beach is receiving 6 new KME's. My partner is installing the grill numbers as they arrive.

How many engines and truck companies were closed as a result of the budget cuts and have any of the closed companies reopened since then?

I don't think they closed fire companies I know they had did away with paramedic rescues and made every engine a paramedic engine as part pilot program In order to save money. But I believe county decided it was not a beneficial program and ordered them to change back to paramedic ambulances. They also use to be all Seagrams fleet too.

On the LBFD FB page, there is a video with the Chief explaining funding shortfalls and while he wasn't called in to talk abt the prop that the city had in the Primary, specifically, he states that over the last several years, the FD has had to close 5 Engines, 1 Truck and 1 RA.

Here is the link, if it works.

If it doesn't work, the vid was posted on the FD's FB page on June 1.

Hope that helps

There is talk to reopen one engine co. The squrt ran as E101 and was closed. Never closed any RA's except for the one dispanded. Low bid strikes again.

Actually, I spoke with a firefighter who works for Long Beach Fire and he told me that they're opening up one engine on September the 1st and it's going to be Engine 8.

They closed E101, 8, 17, 18, and at least one truck.
