tks for the update, I think the 4 Impels are coming from money approved for apparatus  in FY2018/19 budget,

Most recent update:

Money will go towards 10 new pumpers. A fleet of red cars. 2 ladder tender type bodies built by shops.

Year after, 10 more pumpers, 3-5 tower ladders, 2-4 brush trucks.

Things change weekly and until order is placed, we never know.

I don't understand why Phoenix Fire doesn't have their own helicopter. San Diego has 3, yet PFD has to rely on the PD for help with brush fires. I just don't get it.

Phoenix needs replacement apparatus, replaced stations, new stations/companies,  and about 20 new dispatchers before they can think about a helicopter!.

3 new Dodge Ram / Demers are in upfitting at shops. R19, R55, and 3rd tba.

2020 will bring 11 more rescues.

4 Pierce Impel engines have gone through final inspection and delivery will be very soon. Assignments tba.

2020 will bring 5 more Pierce Impel engines and 5 Rosenbauer Commander engines.

A couple new staff vehicles have arrived and Car 1 received an unmarked Chevy Tahoe.

Maybe because you can get 5 Commanders for the Price of 3 Impels and it frees up money for more new rescues

Not this year. Maybe big changes for ladders in Phoenix.

So I guess the Rosenbauer trial at 25s went well.

Not as good as they would have liked but splitting differences kind of like LA City or DC. They are very cautious to never have another ALF situation again.

But I guess they can keep waiting for months as deliveries from Rosenbauer keep getting delayed. Multiple issues with Rosenbauers in valley.

They should invest in an md 500

A MD-500 is not the right copter for firefighting and rescue.  It does not have enough payload for firefighting and barely enough payload/capacity to be a rescue/MedEvac copter.  Phoenix gets hot, has nearby mountains, so a MD-500 is not a good hot/high/heavy bird either.  MD-500's make suitable police patrol copters, and even most departments have gone to or going to more modern and capable copters for policing.

Good point.  I like competition for Pierce.  The only way some of the competitors were going to survive Pierce was to consolidate like REV Group did with the portfolio of brands/manufacturers they purchased (E-One, KME & Ferrara).  I would love to see Seagrave and Stephen become stronger competitors.  I think Spartan buying Smeal was a good move!  There is a reason Pierce is #1: quality, likeability, meeting delivery schedules fairly well, and more.  The price points of Pierce are higher, but if the rig stays in service without mechanicals (% dispatch reliability), this is better for fire service not to mention costs.  If the rig outlasts competition for useful life without retirement, that is better and represents a cost savings.  If the rig retains a better re$ale value after retirement, that too is overall a contributor to the aggregate cost savings of a more reliable machine.  After a few or even many years in service, it will be interesting to compare the Commander to the Impel, for Phoenix FD.
