  1. turf battle been going on for years, ocsd says they provide search and rescue and ocfa provides the paramedic care and transport..ocfa feels different, sadly ocsd feels they can jump the call if they feel like it  and nobody is going to tell them not too. the board of supes was supposed to get involved in this , but likely to take a back seat to it all

  2. pierce is still going strong, almost all of the city departments in orange county ca are now pierce,  several large cities back east are now going pierce. they have become quite expensive to purchase a single unit unless you piggy back on an order with multiple agencies. I was told they don't always bid due to the fact that they are so backlogged with orders

  3. waterguy, the original post said CAB roofs were leaking, which I said was very hard to believe since all cabs from the saber to the quantum are all produced on the same production line, and there is no other reports of any weak or leaking cabs.  .now the compartments on the tiller section I can see having issues with since they are all custom made in different configurations .I never said pierce builds a perfect apparatus, they don't, no app builder does, that is why they have warrenties to correct isssues like this.

  4. nobody is disputing that la city is a tough customer, they are used to getting things done their way, but there is some missing information  missing here that nobody is disclosing right now. every apparatus dealer has problems with new deliveries , that's why they have warrenties to correct problems, which i'm sure pierce will do. we have 10 pierce rigs ranging in years from 1989 up to 2016 , we have had some small issues, but pierce was very responsive and corrected the issues in a timely manner . like I said in a previous post, pierce does not build crappy apparatus, just take a look at how many departments are leaving kme, seagrave, e-one, and so-on and buying pierce. these numbers don't lie. like I said there is more to this story than is being disclosed at this time

  5. well in a nutshell , it is for firefighter safety, there really in no reason that calls need to be publicly dispatched. this brings out all the yahoo's who load the family up in the car and drive to the scene to watch a building burn, don't laugh it happens more than you think. also most news media pay money for pics and video clips of fires hence everyone is pulling up in front of the working fire, getting out of their cars trying to get pics before the fd gets there.  don't even get me started on the people with drones, they are the worst, combine this with the fact that a fire apparatus just getting to a scene is a nightmare in itself because drivers won't heed red lights and sirens

  6. it free's the dispatcher up to do other tasks, in orange county in addition to the automated dispatch , you also get a station print out, station vocals, pager activation and mdc activation. it allows for he dispatcher to obtain additional info from the caller, it is all part of the ever changing world of fire and ems dispatching. on a side note all fire agencies in orange county will be going encrypted on their new radio systems in the next year or so making following them  impossible unless your sitting in front of a fire station

  7. going with the puc pump, gives you much more storage room on the engine allowing for more ems , medical and in some cases truck company equipment . another option many departments are going to is the top coffin compartments which is good for out of town gear, and equipment not used everyday

  8. I highly doubt that they would have a new reserve truck, especially since their current front line truck is only about 6 years old. more than likely they are going to ask the city to staff 1 more engine and 1 more truck or a combination of either. santa monica has  a booming construction thing going on so the need may be there for additional units

  9. you are correct Hermosa only has 1 station with 1 engine and 1 medic staffed per shift, going with la county or any other outside agency is only going to give you what coverage or staffing the city bean counters decide to pay for. if the city decides to only pony up the same amount of money they are paying now , the resources will not change

  10. it would be up to either of those cities to want to merge with Hermosa beach. it sounds to me like the bean counters in Hermosa don't want to give the fd the money it needs to service the growing community. I think Redondo and manhatten are probally just fine the way they are currently. Hermosa beach would get more bang for the buck by going la county

  11. while the quantum's are nice rigs, they are the most expensive on the pierce line. the arrow xt's that everybody seems to be buying are also great rigs. keep in mind that the arrow's are built with a lot of input from la city fire, who gets a lot of work as well as abuse on their rigs. with budgets being what they are  you just get more bang for the buck  with these rigs

  12. truck 6 would most likely respond with heavy rescue  6 since you would have one or both of the tech trucks responding, depending on availability and the type of call.  I think truck 61 is also considered a medium duty rescue with additional equipment on it. also keep in mind if it is a remote canyon rescue, truck 34 can respond code  3 to fullerton airport and fly with the copters to the scene

  13. the bottles are the same, size , manufacturer, capacity. the pack  harnesses are different on each rig, some are older than others , some with more wear and tear, just depends how busy a certain company is and how much they get used

  14. orange county has run pierce , seagrave ,crown, van pelt ,and now runs kme and a few smeal. a first for orange county is the raised roofs on the new rigs, they started this on the last order of kme engines and are now going with it on the new engines and trucks. once all the new trucks are in service there will be no 75 foot ladders left in front line service
