Robotic dispatching

Just curious as to what the reasoning is behind the sudden popularity of Robotic dispatching. Phoenix has gone to it, along with Orange County, CA. What's the benefit? How does it work?

it free's the dispatcher up to do other tasks, in orange county in addition to the automated dispatch , you also get a station print out, station vocals, pager activation and mdc activation. it allows for he dispatcher to obtain additional info from the caller, it is all part of the ever changing world of fire and ems dispatching. on a side note all fire agencies in orange county will be going encrypted on their new radio systems in the next year or so making following them  impossible unless your sitting in front of a fire station

To me that's b.s. ! Fire departments should not be encrypted.  Police dispatch should not be encrypted.  Only special operation calls should be.  This is killing the hobby! How's the media going to know what's going on?

What exactly would be the benefits of fire going encrypted? If there are any.

well in a nutshell , it is for firefighter safety, there really in no reason that calls need to be publicly dispatched. this brings out all the yahoo's who load the family up in the car and drive to the scene to watch a building burn, don't laugh it happens more than you think. also most news media pay money for pics and video clips of fires hence everyone is pulling up in front of the working fire, getting out of their cars trying to get pics before the fd gets there.  don't even get me started on the people with drones, they are the worst, combine this with the fact that a fire apparatus just getting to a scene is a nightmare in itself because drivers won't heed red lights and sirens
