Posted March 4, 2014 Study just released regarding the current state of the LAFD and what can be done to improve it. Long read, but very interesting. http://www.scribd.com/doc/210337760/20140303-Fire-Dept-Third-Party-Deployment-of-Fire-Resources-Study-Los-Angeles-Fire-Department-Pa-Consulting-Group-
Posted March 5, 2014 interesting reading, there are some good idea's presented , and some not so good idea's . on thing is for sure , this is going to start a clash between the union and the city over certain options. we all know the mayor and upper brass are all about saving money and doing more with less. I know there is talk about restoring the budget but we all know they are going to lean heavily on the ems side when it comes to spending the money
Posted March 5, 2014 Was this proposed while Antonio Villaraigosa was still the Mayor of Los Angeles because I heard that Mayor Garcetti wants to see the LAFD reopen closed companies.
Posted March 6, 2014 no this was all mayor garcetti's doing, he has stated he want's to restore the budget, did not hear anything about re-opening closed companies. that's what this whole study is about re-allocation of resources, going to smaller apparatus on certain calls, and of course opening up more ra and ambo units across the city
Posted March 6, 2014 Look at all the recent # of fires including the fatal ones we have had for this year and this is to show why we need to have additional fire suppression resources besides the RA's.
Posted March 6, 2014 This study is also calling for a "Standards of Coverage" report to be put together which usually is a more detailed and specific document as to what the Fire Department expects to be the response times and the fire company coverage should be.
