Posted February 10, 2014 The Los Angeles Fire Department is launching a sweeping overhaul of cumbersome 911 call handling procedures that officials say contribute to delays in getting rescuers to victims in life-threatening medical emergencies. http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-lafd-dispatch-2-20140210,0,6192381.story#ixzz2svTfHF5w
Posted February 14, 2014 http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-lafd-dispatch-2-20140210,0,6192381.story#ixzz2svTfHF5w It's about time. ProQA is a cookie cutter system that has just been trying to stay relevant, and their only real selling point seems to be "you'll never get sued." Consistency in PAIs is important, but you need to be able to provide some discretion and not turn dispatchers into robots.
Posted February 14, 2014 the only thing that needs to be done is build more hospitals and urgent care centers. People either don't know and or assume that going to the ER rather by ambulance or on there on will not get them seen faster. When you have people who uses the ER/hospital as there care provider because they do not have insurance makes things worst. LAFD response times are the way they are because they spend a whole lot of time with non-serious injured/sick people waiting on beds. at some hospitals they will try to get to the patient fast, evaluate them and send the to the triage are. With that being said I hear people saying and writing on these boards LAFD need to scrap their ambulances and contract service it really wouldn't matter because you would still get tied at the hospital waiting for a bed. The focus should be on getting people without life threatening conditions to go to urgent care and not the ER.
Posted February 14, 2014 this will only get worse as the great OBcare kicks in as thousands join the ranks of those at the ERs most with no money, will be looking for "free" transport by calling 911, and of course, the bills will never be paid The great State of California will be financially a disaster case, worse than anyone can imagine now
Posted February 15, 2014 I agree, the health care system in California is being heald togeather with a piece of thread. sooner or later that thread will break and disaster will follow. you think er wait times are bad now. someone said build more hospitals, do you have any idea what it cost to build, equip, and staff a hospital,,, not cheap my friend . there have been 2 or 3 that have closed in the la area in the last few years, why, people abuse the 911 system, looking for a free ride and then with no insurance they skip out on the bill
