I have noticed on several occasions, LA Co Squads have been running calls with lights on but no siren. I find this to be a very dangerous practice.. I always thought an emergency response was supposed to be both lights and siren. Any thoughts?

Chief William Bamattre was the last “Chief Engineer” title with LAFD. Chief Bamattre served as Chief Engineer then Fire Chief from 1996-2007. Sometime during his tenure, the title changed.

The LAFD truck are spec’d out with one compartment for the air bag.

For LA City FD, in the late 80's, early 90's at Fire Station 20, we had an older ambulance (see photo of similar vehicle) that had a 100' Rescue Air Cushion (RAC). This was the first air cushion in the City of Los Angeles. We responded within the boundaries of Los Angeles as well as surrounding communities i.e.. Glendale, Pasadena, LA County Area.
As the years progressed, the department purchased more 100' & 75' bags that we placed on the truck companies. The RAC 20 vehicle was eventually phased out and the air cushion transferred to the truck.
We responded as Task Force 20, Rescue Air Cushion 20.

The 900’s are EMT RA’s assigned to stations with 3 digits. Ie. Fire Station 103 has RA 903 etc..

Sorry for the misinformation.

I heard a Unit the other day on LA Co Fire radio. It’s unit designation was BP 10 or 11. What is this unit. Thanks

I know when LA City Fire installed them on their apparatus, the light stick control head had a selector switch to choose high or low, along with a directional selector. This was for night time responses. The original light stick installed were turned on separately from the master switch. Now, it turns on with the master switch.

Engine 24 is currently in a 2003 Pierce. The decal lettering on the side does say Los Angeles City Fire Department Class 1. Also, new orders will include City
in California
