Posted July 2, 2021 According to San Diego Fire's wiki, the following apparatus are at the air ops base at Montgomery: Copter 1, Copter 2, Copter 3, Air Operations 1, Air Operations 2. So we know what a copter is, but what are the two "Air Ops" units? Are they helitenders? Are they a different kind of helicopter?
Posted July 3, 2021 It might be Light duty ship for Helicopter coordination. "HELCO" I believe LA County has a Jet ranger for that purpose as well. California Red likes this
Posted July 14, 2021 Air Ops 1 is the old callsign the the Air Ops Chief. Now that person is referred to as Battalion 44. Some of the Crew Chiefs used to have callsigns like Air Ops 2, 3 etc. I have not heard those used in quite awhile. There are two Fuel Tenders (FT1 and 2) and three Air Support pickups (AS1,2,3).
