Posted November 18, 2018 What the hell is going on here? Don't get how 3 departments nowhere near each other are part of the same district? Sun Lakes should have joined either Chandler or Gilbert. Posted November 21, 2018 Arizona state law says fire districts with NON contiguous boundaries can merge only in counties with more than 1 million population, Guess where? Fire districts are taking hits due to tax valuations and are looking to merge statewide Copper Canyon (Montezuma Rimrock and Camp Verde) Golder Ranch (Absorbed Mountain Vista fire) Central Arizona Fire and Medical(Central Yavapai and Chino Hills) some are JPA (Fire Authority ) some are consolidations (new Board, new employer) some are absorption of one over the other (new Employer for old district) Yuma Rural Metro floated a fire district some years ago but because the city bisects the area of county, you would have to form 2 districts - city line extends to Federal land in the south county.
