  1. Former E127 is currently acting as E100, while Hermosa's rig gets repainted, that much is true.  When it returns it will remain at 100s and former 127s rig will be reassigned elsewhere in the region, possibly as a first line company or as a reserve. It has not been decided yet.  Also, with Foam 10 moving to 127s to make room for the squad, Foam 5127 (The Mack) will most likely be retired.

It all depends. Take station 35 for example. When E35 was closed, their new at the time KME engine became E235. When engine 35 reopened. It when back to being E35 and 235 was given a hand me down.

Same with 75s. E275 got the KME, while it was destined for 75s originally.  I'm sure there are other houses like that.

  3. Found this little tidbit yesterday on Facebook.

Los Angeles County Fire Department has awarded Boise Mobile Equipment (BME) and their partnering dealer Western Truck Exchange (WTE) six (6) Type-3 and Ten (10) Type-6 fire apparatus. Tag-on opportunities are available. Contact us at sales@bmefire.com or call (800) 445-8342 to be connected with your area sales rep.

While I don't have exact dates on all of the moves (as I am not from LA) I understand that at different times in the past Station 3 did have a Heavy Utility (which is what the Heavy Rescues were once called) did have one assigned to the station.  I had read that there was a Heavy Utility that had been assigned to Station 14 from 1948 until 1960 when they were relocated Station 3. I think that the one one at Station 3 was relocated to the Old Station 6. In 1967 to my understanding Heavy Utility 6 received a new Crown Heavy Wrecker  that was painted Yellow and they were relocated to Station 27 was the Old Station 6 was torn down. While I don't have any dates I have a suspicion that the one at Station 27  was Station 3. I am not sure if the one at Station 56  was relocated there from Station 27 or whether they were relocated there from Station 3  because I believe that sometime in the early 80's Station 3 did have the Heavy Rescue assigned there probably before the current Station 56 was opened.

Does any one on this site have the specific dates and years that the Heavy Utilities were in service.  Such as when did Heavy Utility 88 go in service and when were they taken our of service?  I believe that the one at Station 88 was only in service for about 3 years as the new (current Station) was opened in 1975 and  there were major cutbacks in 1978 which is probably when Heavy Utility 88 was taken out of service The one at the current  Station 88   was a newer Mack  Heavy Wrecker  however when the one at Station 88 was taken out of service (probably around 1978) it was relocated to Station 3 and then to 27 and eventually ended up at Station 56 when the current house was opened. Perhaps someone on this site might have a more detailed or specific history.

I don't have exact dates either, but I shot this in the mid 80s at 88's during Fire Service Day activities.

Btw, old Station 6 was not torn down, they built a new station on a different property to better serve their district.

It seems odd, that Quint 162 was moved to 161's. I know KME is currently constructing a new 3-axle Quint for the County, that's designed to fit in 162's short station. Who know's.

Could it be that the new Quint that was to go to 162s may be given to 116s due to their tight quarters as well and give now Q161 a hand me down (or new, if they have any in production) TDQ? Just thinking out loud.

there were already plans to replace this station in the very near future, around the corner from where it is now, looks like the plans will be accelerated now.

Do you mean to the empty lot on La Palma between the Elementary School and Western? Just Curious. Thanks

orange county has run pierce , seagrave ,crown, van pelt ,and now runs kme and a few smeal. a first for orange county is the raised roofs on the new rigs, they started this on the last order of kme engines and are now going with it on the new engines and trucks. once all the new trucks are in service there will be no 75 foot ladders left in front line service

Don't forget the Sutphen Trucks! :)

The city's of Pomona and Inglewood asked the department to shutter 181s and 172s. 172s has since been reopened.

Don't forget FS 167 in El Monte, which has since reopened.
