  1. I think this makes good $ense.  I think years ago the city should have implemented a triage system through dispatch at Heartland to downgrade calls of which they assigned private ambulance services (on rotation, or a contract with a primary good EMS company), to keep ALS rigs from FD available.  The other thing that makes sense is stop using the truck (T6 or T11) on all the code runs for first-responders where someone needs a taxi service for a headache.  And then figure out how not to use all the FD assets for psych calls (5150's).

    I couldn't agree any more.

Also M440 took a call today in El Cajon, I don't believe there are currently any AMR rigs in the area with this unit number, I'm guessing this is the 3rd medic that will be in El Cajon with the new contract, not sure why its numbered 440, I thought the units were going to be numbered 436-439.

  2. EL CAJON — El Cajon is contracting out more of its paramedic services with a private company.

The City Council unanimously agreed last week to an expanded deal for five years with American Medical Response Ambulance Service Inc. for transporting patients to hospitals.

As part of the contract, AMR will pay the city nearly $1.5 million over five years. The city also anticipates overall savings based on a decrease in personnel costs, capital costs, such as fuel, and for vehicle upkeep.

  3. I've heard on the scanner 2 times recently San Diego medics taking calls in the Lemon Grove and La Mesa, I wonder if now that Rural/Metro and AMR are the same company San Diego medics will be called into AMR contract cities. I've also seen on Pulsepoint AMR units on calls in the city of San Diego.

  4. I don't mean to butt into yours and lkseng3's conversation here but as far as I know AMR 436 has already replaced Medic 6,  I live in 6s service area and haven't seen it in about 2-3 weeks so i'm guessing it was replaced right away, also T6 is out for maintenance again and I don't believe E206 is being ran out of the station right now. Brush 8 has been running a lot medical calls recently and is actually the first out of station 8 with E8 being the second out, maybe not having E206 in service is the reason for Brush 8 running calls. In the last week SMG E7213 & E7211 were pulled into El Cajon for medicals and just today an AMR unit had to be called in from a distance because there were no medics available . El Cajon will definitely have to do something with the increasing number of medical calls they get and I think the idea you gave would be perfect because living just down the block from one of these assisted care facilities I see the FD multiple times a week at the location.
