Posted June 17, 2017 I happened across this. Not sure if El Cajon or unincorporated area which would be San Miguel (well still Cal Fire). It was on east side of the off-ramp from I-8 eastbound. It was just before noon on Friday. Sedan in a solo vehicle TC left the right side of exit ramp and took down a light standard then impacted a tree. 30 foot down from off-ramp. CHP CAD page said two occupants, entrapment, and air ambulance copter landing nearby. I assume that may have been Mercy Air. I believe both victims were listed as major injuries. You can see in the pic of accident vehicle, major intrusion of the tree. I got there after victims were extricated and air ambulance was gone. I took the following photos of the news 7218, 7219, and T4 (Santee) and B3. E8 had left before I took pics. The only view I could get was from an apartment complex on east side of scene, but there was a noise suppression plexiglass setup so I had to shoot through that which diminished my photos. As you see, 7218 & 7219 are the new Smeals. Note the interesting LED lights on 7218 including the ambers on the upper side, which I have previously mentioned. I was surprised T4 took up the rescue, though maybe T6 was busy. I am hoping to see more dedicated rescues in our area, but think the trucks or rescue-pumpers are the way many agencies are going, though I think rescue boxes are still needed for technical and USAR/heavy rescue needs in the future.
