Santee FD Rescue 5 retirement

1 post in this topic

As I suspected earlier as I noticed Santee FD's Rescue 5 (Pierce) parked a shops (4's) for a few weeks in back lot, it is official, Rescue 5 has been retired.  The new Truck 4 (Pierce/TDA) will be the primary rescue for Santee.  While it will have light capacity, it does not have air refilling, so Santee will lose that which was on the rescue. Since Santee had a bit a technical rescue specialty in confined space/trench rescues, I am not sure how that will go but believe they still have their trailer with much of the cribbing materials and a pick-up to tow it.  I asked Santee FD if they had anything in the strategic plan/budget to acquire another rescue, and that seemed to not be in any plans, for now.  They did add a 2nd full-time pumper (E205) to station 5's, so the staffing on R5 now is manning E205 or E5.  None of their engines are rescue capable.
