Does anyone have a photo of the new Las Vegas ambulances with the new graphics package?
-
That's a unique color for the area.

Doesn't/didn't Santa Monica FD have their own ambulances? I remember them using Lifeline Slopsides.

It should be noted that the Arrow XT was initially designed for the LAFD contract of engines they got in the early-mid 00's.

The SF Fire Department needs to replace its aging fire trucks soon, and Supervisor Scott Wiener says the department should use the purchase to take advantage of more versatile models that other cities are using to navigate narrow streets.

Quote from the LA Times:
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, responding to a barrage of criticism about a Fire Department hiring system that eliminated thousands of qualified applicants, announced Thursday afternoon that he is scrapping the process.
"I have determined that the Fire Department's recruiting process is fatally flawed," Garcetti said in a statement. The mayor said he made his decision after he discovered that Fire Department "staff organized special recruiting workshops for LAFD insiders." -

DANGER! Our collection is in danger of being damaged. We need a new roof ASAP. We have used every "band aid" available, and they did not work. Help us put on a new roof. See our homepage for more information and the link to donate.
During the heavy rains we experienced in Southern California in February, water poured on our collection. We had a dangerous situation with one of our main electrical boxes being located under a waterfall. Water just missed our huge steam engine restoration project by just a few inches.
This is Engine 51 at Firehouse World last month. E51 and Squad 51 were big hits in Anaheim. We need your help to preserve them NOW. It will be $40,000 to put on a new roof. Help us out and dedicate a donation to our roof today. HELP SAVE our collection before it is too late.

Study just released regarding the current state of the LAFD and what can be done to improve it. Long read, but very interesting.

I've heard KME won the bid, but nothing official as of yet. I believe Pierce, Seagrave, and Spartan ERV bid as well.

KME has been awarded 15 more pumpers for LAFD:
City of Los Angeles Chooses KME
KME is pleased to announce the City of Los Angeles’ Fire Department has awarded KME, an order for fifteen (15) more custom pumpers. The award is part of a multi-year contract from which KME has already delivered almost three dozen engines.
The pumpers will be built on KME’s PredatorTM Severe ServiceTM chassis, designed for high volume fleets and will be similar to units previously delivered to the City in 2011 and 2013. Features include a 450hp engine, 1500gpm two-stage pump, 500/30 gallon water/foam tank, Class A foam system, and a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. The body is custom designed for the LAFD to carry the ladders at a low enclosed height, enclosed suction hose storage, and compartmentation in the hosebed area designed for specialized equipment.
Long term purchase agreements like the one utilized by the City of Los Angeles offer a number of benefits including:
• Assurance of competitive pricing and audit accountability
• Established pricing guidelines for future purchases
• Minimized administrative costs and product price increases
• Minimized training, service and parts inventory expense
• Allowance for competitive bids at any time should the FD choose to do so
For more information, contact KME’s factory sales and service center located in Ontario, California. This operation offers a robust network of sales, parts and service support to the City with both mobile and service center support.
KME is a leading custom manufacturer of a full range of specialty vehicles for military, industrial, commercial, aviation and municipal markets. Additional information on KME can be found at www.kovatch.com or by emailing to kme@kovatch.com. For more information on this press release, contact Phil Gerace, KME Director of Sales and Marketing, pgerace@kovatch.com or 570-669-5174. -
It's funny they closed the SW facility, yet corporate headquarters moved into what sounds like a very lush, expensive new building.

The Los Angeles Fire Department is launching a sweeping overhaul of cumbersome 911 call handling procedures that officials say contribute to delays in getting rescuers to victims in life-threatening medical emergencies.http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-lafd-dispatch-2-20140210,0,6192381.story#ixzz2svTfHF5w

I don't know. I'm surprised R/M is still buying Brauns. Seems like R/M would switch to a less expensive brand considering their bout with Chapter 11 last year.
I was thinking the same thing.
However, they buy the most expensive model of Wheeled Coach Type II Chevrolet vans. I'm thinking they get a good price from Braun, especially with the volume they order. I think they want their fleet as identical as possible for logistics reasons.

What exactly did the ALF Los Angeles facility do?

Los Angeles fire officials are dramatically changing how rescuers respond to mass shootings after a gunman with a high-powered rifle mortally wounded a federal security officer in a shooting rampage last month at LAX.The new goal is to have Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and firefighters, protected by armed law enforcement teams, rapidly enter potentially dangerous areas during active shooting incidents to treat victims and get them en route to hospital trauma centers.

It is with great sadness that Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby announces the active duty death of Los Angeles County Fire Fighter Specialist Shawn Bayer on November 2, 2013, from cancer. The Los Angeles County Fire Department family expresses our deepest condolences and sympathy to the entire Bayer Family during this difficult time. The Department's Memorial Management Team has been activated to ensure proper care for all family members and to make certain that Fire Fighter Specialist Bayer is laid to rest with honor.
