  1. The push by former Mayor Bob Filner to end the outsourcing of the city’s ambulance service and have it run by the Fire-Rescue Department has been shelved by interim Mayor Todd Gloria.

Gloria, who took over after Filner resigned Aug. 30 because of misconduct toward women, has proposed renewing the city’s current contract with Rural/Metro Corp. for an additional year and then putting a new five-year ambulance contract up for competitive bid. That request-for-proposals, however, wouldn’t allow city firefighters to submit a bid because top fire officials were heavily involved in creating the RFP.

  2. I have, however, heard rumors that they may dump their fire protection contracts, as they are money losing.

If this is true we should be hearing about it within the next couple of months. R/M plans to emerge from bankruptcy in December.

  3.  Southwest & PMT, they have basically replaced there whole fleet

with brand new ambulances.  Something you did not see with the old owners

This replacement pace might be slowing down during R/M's bankruptcy reorganization. PMT's ambulances in Tempe have not  been replaced with new rigs. The 911 transport contract was renewed back in February.
