  1. I think he is just trying to stir the pot here and it's not appreciated. NFPA is not law. Departments can do whatever they please and I find it very hard to believe departments will do this.
  2. Please post a link to an actual fire department that talks about this happening. That link you provided us was to a website that creates fake articles. I have not heard of this happening down here in San Diego.
  3. Do you know that website is a satirical website?
  4. Were the 2 KME's (R4 HM1) part of the lease contract SDFD had with KME or were those 2 units purchased by the department?
  5. The new USAR will fit in 4's. USAR 41 is used at 4's when R4 is OOS.
  6. The plan is T45 will be a new company correct? SD isn't planning on relocating an existing Truck right? What does SD City do for staffing for units like the Foam Tender, Water Tenders, and L&A? Is there an extra FF on duty covering those units at their respected stations?
  7. No. E202s just runs as a reserve.
  8. Last time we talked about this, there is no longer Foam 28. The foam unit is at 45's and is a newer Pierce Foam Tender.
  9. WT 7854 is from San Pasqual. Since San Pasqual is now run by the county, they were given the number of 84 for their station.
  10. E203 I believe is E3's former KME that has just kept its designation as E203. It is currently at Station 1 running as E1's Reserve. So on the response yesterday E203 was actually 1's.
  11. In short, the AMR contract for Campo, Alpine, Jamul, and Otay has ended. Mercy will now be the ambulance provider in the area effective April 1st. Here are the links to the stories: http://www.eastcountymagazine.org/county-changes-ambulance-service-without-public-notice-public-safety-advocates-voice-alarm http://www.eastcountymagazine.org/ambulance-updates-announced
  12. If you read into the links, the new bid is lower than the AMR bid. Mercy doesn't have a website. However looking them up as Mercy Medical Transportation, Inc might give you better results.
  13. Haha actually 7268 is the Brush assigned to Crest. Didn't know if you were using that as a reference or it was just a coincidence. But yes, the 4 digit system is way too confusing. I know it has it's purpose, but it can get confusing when you have too many units on scene. For me, I will never be able to remember all of the units in North County.
  14. And let me clarify, Otay is referred to as Donovan's Prison Area. Not to be confused with the East Chula Vista area.
  15. San Miguel has purchased property on the corner of N 1st St and Pepper Drive where the new Station 19 will be located. They remodeled the existing house and are in the process of cleaning the yard. A steel garage is going to be build to house the Engine. There was word that SMG and LKS were going to build a joint station close by the area. 1's would respond North into Lakeside and 19's South. But looks like SMG jumped the gun on it. SMG is also trying to annex the Pepper Drive area into their Sphere of Influence. If this doesn't happen, then the new Station won't even be in their District. It will now be in Lakeside's area.
  16. I like how our discussions about the happenings in East County begin to differ from what the original thread was about. Someday we need to start a thread titled "East County Updates". But in the meantime: Lakeside runs the Telesquirt as E202S. The dept. will not be buying another Squirt as all the Engines will be in the Smeals. 2 more are expected to be delivered soon. We can play the "what if" game when it comes to who East County should have consolidated with. Yes, great thing that a local dept was able to allow East County to join them, but look at the position they are in now. If East County didn't get an offer by anyone local, then they would have gone Cal Fire. Or the same if they partnered with Lakeside or Alpine; they could have gone Cal Fire due to money running out quick. It was a very unfortunate circumstance however the communities of Crest and Bostonia still have an ALS Engine in their first-due. Now Rescue51 this may shock you so hold on to your hat, but your wish may come true for El Cajon. Word is is that El Cajon may no longer provide Ambulance services. They will cut the 3 Ambulances and AMR will come in. Currently El Cajon is down 5 members so no one will have to worry about losing their jobs. Now what will happen if this goes through is that E6,E8,T6 will be staffed by 4 personel not 3. There will also be a Squad put into service at Station 6 staffed by 2 FF/PM's to run Medical Calls. To think if El Cajon gets rid of their 3 boxes, what will happen to Lakeside and Santee? Well the idea is the other 2 will drop transportation services as well or have a cooperative agreement with AMR so Santee and Lakeside will have AMR coverage when LKS and SNT's Ambulances are on calls. I see Santee receiving a new Truck sometime in the near future. I'm trying to remember correctly, but wasn't the current T4 bought under the LA City/Simon-Duplex bid when they had Trucks delivered? If I'm wrong, I can still see Santee hopping in on the LAFD bid with Pierce and getting a Pierce Tiller out of the deal. I'm sorry, but it is a pet-peeve of mine when it is suggested that a dept lose a specialty rig for a standard Engine. R5 is not only a resource to Santee as a Rescue, but it is also a key resource to the surrounding areas. If you really think about the whole county and the "dedicated" Rescues, in my opinion there isn't enough. Truck's in the county are most often used as a "Rescue" resource depending on what dept. you are with. When there is a Rescue Response in El Cajon, the T6 is used. But if you go to Lakeside, R3 is used. It varies by dept. But when you have a resource like R5 that functions as a Rescue, L&A, and confined space&trench rescue, it's a resource that you can't do without. Take a map of the County and plot where there are dept's running Rescues. Now use a technical rescue response happening in the county and take away those resources because they are dedicated to that response. Example is when there was a man that fell into a well in Potrero. SNT R5 T4, SMG R15, CHV USAR53, and I believe SND USAR41 was enroute. This doesn't include SDCFA Rescues that responded. What did an incident like that do to the County's resources of Rescues available? What if there were 2 incidents running at the same time? In my opinion, if Santee was to purchase a new rig for R5, it should be the size of USAR41 with the same amount of equipment on it. R5 is not a resource to be replaced with a Rescue Engine or a standard Engine. And to continue with what you said Rescue51 about "departments need to economize their dollars", why do think that is? I won't go into a political rant, but some departments are forced to do this because they don't get as much of the pie as they should. If you have a specialty resource like R5 and you take that away to "save money", then it will be very difficult in the future to purchase one again. Depts. are forced to do more with less in this day in age so why bother getting rid of the current resources you have?
  17. They should have left them alone. There were some politics going on which caused some changes like that. 16's (66) is now starting to seem like the busier station in SMG. And you can look into to it, but there is no doubt a time delay in how fast Monte Vista dispatches any units into Heartland (ex. 19's). It's just plain fact. One of the things that was promised to SMG before the Cal Fire partnership was that they'd get dispatched just as well as Heartland Dispatch. Well we can see how that ended up. As far as the busiest in SMG is 16 (66), 19 (69), and 14 (64). If SMG does decide to go Smeal, they will be very similar to LKS. Cal Fire rarely buys any HME Type 1's. What you may be referring to is OES (CAL EMA). They buy the HME Type 1's (Model 18). One thing you have to remember is SMG is their own department. Cal Fire and SMG are 2 seperate entities that are in a partnership. If SMG happens to go back, everything except for the suppression personnel (and some administrative) stays. Rigs, stations everything stays SMG. Now is there some influence from how Cal Fire operates to SMG? Yes. Which if you think about it, is one of the reasons SMG is looking into a Smeal. The SDCFA Chief happens to be from Riverside where Riverside runs nothing but those Smeal Engines. So is there a little influence from Cal Fire? Very much so. The E-One L&A is out of 15's (65) and is running as L&A7685. Not to confuse this with R7685 (Ferrara Rescue).
  18. BR8 is at Station 8 and has been for a few months now. The last time I saw it there it was in the left bay (if you are facing the station) and is behind a Reserve Medic rig. As of the new Ferrara in Spring Valley, it was more than likely a County rig. San Miguel uses a flat roof cab County Ferrara Type 1 as a reserve as well as for E7615. San Miguel's board is in the decision phase of buying a new Type 1. Looks like the decision will be between Pierce and Smeal. The '05 Pierces are reaching 10 years old. 16's (7616) and 21's (7611) swapped their Pierces due to mileage and the wear and tear on 16's former Pierce. 18's (7218) and 19's (7619) swapped their Ferrara's due to the mileage on 19's former rig. SMG's new Type 3's that were delivered a few months ago are still not in service due to when they were received, they were broken. So SMG and HME are coordinating to get those in service. One will be going to Station 14 (64) and the other will go to Station 16 (66).
  19. As of Saturday (10/18), word is the Type III will be assigned to Station 8. It will be a County (yes, County) Type III Ferrara. Pretty interesting that a County rig will be housed and staffed at a City department. Rig can be found by going to the Ferrara website using the link: http://www.ferrarafire.com/NewDeliveries/Pages/brush_truck/5564.html The (2) HME Type III's for San Miguel have arrived at the MVU shops and are awaiting tools to be mounted. Word is they will be going to 14's and 16's and the older Westates will be assigned to 15's and 22's and will be kept as Reserves and will be staffed when the MVU Unit has staffing patterns.

  21. You have to remember that San Diego City triages the calls and then cancels fire depending on the Level of the call. Many times, the Engine or Truck gets canceled on the Level 3 and 4 calls that can be handled by a Rural Metro ALS or BLS. The Squad Program ran by SDFD was a proposal that was put into effect with the new Mayor in an effort to better response times in the Lincoln Park, Encanto, and Paradise Hills areas until new stations were built. Now I'm not totally aware of the system LAFD uses, but I do know that some stations that house an ALS and BLS have those respond together to medical aids in their area. No Engines or Trucks will respond unless there is a second medical aid in their district. (If I am totally wrong about this, can someone please enlighten me on the subject?) Now it was a great idea that Heartland added a BLS ambulance at Station 6 to allow for the department to handle BLS transports and not have to rely on a private BLS company to handle them. Now what I think could be a good idea is have a system like LA does. Have an ALS and BLS at 6's,8's, and 9's and have them run the medical calls. It should be able to put less milage and use on the apparatus and be more beneficial to replace the boxes every couple years. Just my 2 cents. This is all hypothetical and we won't know until some kind of pilot program is developed.
  22. The Smeal Engines seem to be doing pretty well. One of the new Engines should be going to 1's, and the other may go to 2's. The one that is currently at 2's will probably go to 26's just like the KME did. The "Patrol" I think hasn't been used on an initial dispatch to a fire as of yet. I think the last time it was used was on the fire on the hill just North of I8 Business and Aurora Dr. It was there the day after along with OES 305 mopping up. Logistically, a Truck at 3's would be a great place to have a Truck. If anyone remembers the mobile home fire next to Station 3 a few weeks back, T11 from La Mesa was assigned to the fire. So it was quite sometime before T11 arrived on scene. Not saying a "true" Truck Company would be a good idea at 3's, but a 75' Quint doesn't seem like a bad idea. And you have to remember that if you go further East of Blossom Valley, a Truck Company usually gets canceled on a structure fire before it even gets close to being on scene. An Engine Company usually picks up the Truck's duties and takes care of Vertical Ventilation. Now with Lakeside having a heavy Wildland Urban Interface, the Smeal Engines are working well and a Truck just doesn't seem practical yet. If you've seen Oceanside's T2177, that Truck is huge. It too is a PUC TDA. Now with the San Miguel/Cal Fire agreement, I'm not going to comment on it too much, but wait till December comes around and we'll see what happens.
  23. I would imagine it would be placed in service as the new E4. If this happened about a year ago, I would say the older Dash would be sold. However, in light of the string of fires that popped up in May, I imagine the Dash will be kept as another reserve. At one point, I believe Heartland had (2) Type 1 Strike Teams out in addition to (1) Type 3 Strike Team outside the Central Zone. With San Miguel no longer with Heartland (for the time being), it put a strain on staffing and resources in the area. But that is another topic for later discussion. A lot of the departments within Heartland have been keeping reserve Engines longer then they have before and are now staffing these rigs when units are out of the Zone. It appears as though this new Engine is an Arrow XT. It appears that the only difference between the current Engine 5 (I believe a 2012 ? Arrow XT Engine) and this new Engine, is the "boxes" on top of the cab that I believe are the Air Conditioning units. I would imagine the next rig to be replaced in Santee would be the Truck. This is my own opinion, but I think it will be best to spec the Truck to be a TDA with a Tank and Pump, and with a pre-plumbed waterway. This way, when the Engine is out of the Zone, the Truck would be able to cover it's district with suppression capabilities. This is something San Diego City did when they spec'd out the 4 new Trucks they received awhile ago. Speaking of new Brush rigs, be on the look out this summer for (2) HME Type 3 Engines to be delivered to San Miguel. Should be delivered about late August, early September. They will be Model 34D Engines. Alpine is also due for a new Type 1 that was awarded to KME last I heard. And lastly, Lakeside's remaining (2) Type 1's should be delivered here anytime soon.
  24. The list vegasbuff has is pretty accurate. It is true that Trucks 41 & 43 have not been used for awhile. They were cross-staffed by E41 & E43 and were the Spartan Towers. Truck 1's Crimson TDA has seen more time at the dealer and the shops then it has a Station 1. Coronado has seen a similar problem with their newer Crimson TDA because it has seen a lot of time in the shop as well. T1 does use the older Tillers as their frontline Truck when the Crimson is not around. Then when the Tiller is out of service, then a Saulsbury 75' RM runs as T1. All Pierce Rear Mount Trucks are 105'. The only non-Saulsbury 75' RM is T21 which has the newer KME. I believe the Pierce Quint that has seen it's share around the city at 14's, 21's, 35's, 40's, and 44's is being used as a Reserve Truck if I'm not mistaken. It may just be assigned to Station 40. The 2012 Pierce 105' RM's assigned as T10, T12, T20, and T28 also have suppression capabilities. The extended bumpers house two crosslays. The Trucks have a 500 gpm Hydraulic pump and a 500 gallon tank. They are not qualified as quints, but have more suppression capabilities then the other "True" Truck Companies. I have seen one Spartan/LTI Tower at the shops within the past 2 years. From what I've heard, the others and the Pierce Snorkel are no longer around. I wouldn't be surprised if sometime within the next year that the Saulsbury RM's will be sold as well and be replaced by Truck's 10, 12, 20, 28 old Pierces. But, San Diego City's Fleet Services are having difficulties keeping their maintenance schedules. The recent strings of brush fires in the County put a strain on the City's fleet due to numerous Type 1 and Type 3 Strike Teams being out of the City. So ideally, I would assume the older Pierce's would become reserve trucks, but who knows.
  25. E12 has been delivered. AID 6 only responds when requested by El Cajon units already on scene. They are called when a BLS transport could be utilized. They are not part of the initial dispatch, only per request. E6 has a Federal Signal Rumbler. It is in sync with the electronic siren. Here is an example: *Property of Youtube* I believe Santee placed in service the same model as M2 and M3 which are placed on a GMC chassis as the new M5.
