  1. Interesting 'pump305'. Do you know why they removed CAFS? I thought CAFS saved a fair amount of water not to mention is better for types of fire suppression.
  2. Thanks for the information "Generic". However, I thought most of the new pumpers (and that KME is not too new) did have CAFS. I thought that was fairly common now on engine pumps.
  3. San Miguel Fire & Rescue currently has two pumpers in production stage, from Pierce. I am not sure of assignments but will guess they will go to Fs22 and Fs16, as those are the higher call volume houses for the district. The board has approved the purchase/spec'ing/production of a new truck, also from Pierce. Not sure of model or specs, the current Pierce T15 is a quint, not sure if it will be spec'd the same way, but assume it will be delivered to Fs15. Eventually I would suspect engines 14, 23 and 21's will likely be replaced to with upgraded Pierces. I was not sure if San Miguel was gonna go to all Smeals as the E18 & E19's are newer Smeals with the urban interface design if I am correct.
  4. That's a shame. I miss ALF rigs though not as high quality as Pierce. The Rev Group has bought up E-One, KME and Ferrara Fire Apparatus. If it keeps them all surviving that is good, but my fear since they operate each company/brand as its own, is that they might consolidate and we'll end up with one or 2 less fire rig makers. With all the action by Rev Group, I was pleased to see Spartan bought Smeal, as this likely will give the Smeal brand/products more life, though they seem to be doing pretty well with Riverside - Cal Fire, and San Miguel Fire-Rescue.
  5. That is a good idea to be more efficient. Is that rapid response ALS rig designated a "squad" in Phoenix? -Rescue51 https://www.fireapparatusmagazine.com/articles/pt/2018/11/in-unique-partnership-phoenix-fire-truck-housed-at-glendale-station.html
  6. Shown is Brush 37, I noticed also on the Pierce Flickr page that SDFR took delivery also in November, of Brush 24. Nice looking rig! It seems these Freightliners are getting more popular and competing strongly with Navistar Internationals. Anyone know from experience how the two compare to each other in quality, holding-up? Does Freightliner on-average have a lower set of price points? Thanks. ~Rescue51 (photo credit to Pierce's Flickr new deliveries page)
  7. Does this mean ECFD/Heartland is not going to have the PUC pump on the new rig, but go back to standard pump panel?
  8. Yes, San Miguel Truck 15 is run a bit too much too on medical aids. Are they running Rescue 15 (Or Rescue 46 per radio)? I was told by the San Miguel BC (right before they left Cal Fire) that they were going to be working towards a truck purchase (expensive proposition). With the Viejas and Sycuan Pierce quints (with I believe 65 foot ladders) sightings down at San Miguel shops (Fs15), wonder if they could requisition one of those for the time being. Wonder how San Miguel's budgets are fairing these days.
  9. Hi Mesabill, I suspect T6 spends so much time in shop as it still rolls on too many medical aids. Though the run demand on T6 has gone down with the addition of Squad-6 (in 2018?), all those years and too many NLS/BLS/ALS runs, beat-up the truck. NLS is my new term: Non Life Support or the "frequent flyers" who may not be able to afford the taxi cab, or Uber.
  10. Thanks for the info '619Emergencys'. It makes good sense to me to piggyback on fleet purchases and seize any opportunity to save money (those Pierce rigs have gotten expen$ive). Wonder if this rig is to replace E7 (on the hill), and swap the older pumper 7's, with the current 6's or 9's, and put the new rig there at 6's (highest run volume I believe, unless E8 now has that award). 9's is getting a bit older but the run volume is pretty low at Fs9's.
  11. Nice looking rig, however, personally, I do not care for those side view mirrors though understand for tight horizontal spaces in stations they are more suitable.
  12. I noticed earlier this week both Viejas T25 and Sycuan T63 at San Miguel maintenance/shops (Fs15's). Both are I believe identical Pierce quints, with I think 65 foot ladders. Wondering if these are being repaired or prepped for $ale. Both rigs are a bit aged. I did notice a heavy-duty tow truck in front of T63, not sure if it was towed-in or about to be towed-out. Anyone have word on this sighting? Thanks! ~Rescue51.
  13. The designating of a "utility"...is that for light & air, and perhaps rescue?
  14. Thanks, nice rig. Glad SDFR is going to the clear lenses LED intersection-clearing code light, that flashes alternating red and white (a good attention getter). I am surprised more departments do not use this combo red/white colors.
  15. Hello to the owner(s) of EMT Bravo West. Nice to see you back on the air, I think the site was down for almost a week. Very happy to see it back, and what looks like the last and original content up and running. If for any reason there is a funding issue for the site host, server provider, etc., I wanted to say that I believe many of us users would be happy to consider some donations to help out, to keep this site going. If so desired, maybe you can post something here. I might recommend you consider mirroring the content here and recent posts, to Facebook, for those that have clicked 'like' on your Facebook page, if able. Thank you for providing this forum to many of us long time users and I know I appreciate it for one.
  16. A big rig. Must be rescue-pumper. City of Laredo, Texas. Photo credit to Pierce's Flickr page. ~Rescue 51
  17. Nice looking rig. Reminds me much of Bonita E37, in terms of paint scheme and being a Quantum, although not sure (don't think) Bonita's pumper is a PUC. Photo credit to the new delivery page for Pierce's Flickr page
  18. To Marianna Fire-Rescue, in Florida. Delivered in August. The quint has a 500 gal. tank/1,500 gpm pump. Interesting Ascendant platform ladder of 110 feet, on a single rear axle. Wonder how it will hold-up with all that weight? But nice design! ~Rescue51. [Photo credit to Flickr and Pierce's new delivery page]
  19. 'Fumarin', yes, they ran Rescue 6 for a while (was at 9's earlier). Yes, 3 man cab up front, Ford. It was fun to see the rescue rolling with the 3 guys in very front barely able to move. Rescue 6 then, had a pump/tank but not much storage for tools/gear. I'm guessing the thinking on the Ford when R9, was it put it very close to Gillespie Airport, for any CFR needs. Now at 6's they are running Squad 6, I hope on many of the EMS/BLS runs that the newer Pierce Truck 6 was rolling on. I am surprised in the consortium of Heartland Fire & Rescue (El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove), that they have not added a dedicated full rescue, though they do have T6, T11, and RE12 as good rescue resources. I think a near-heavy rescue, dedicated, that also has light & air capacity, would be a great resource in Heartland F&R, though the budgets are always too tight. Picture below in 1991, when R6 was running out of 9's as R9. Photo credit RescueKujo's Photo Bucket.
  20. Seen yesterday on Morgan Way (just west of Emerald Avenue) in El Cajon. I think they were getting ready for a big BBQ at a residence. The rig seemed to have a decal from Newport News, Virginia. I wonder if former Alpine FD Chief Downing, might be part of that event/rig? Nice looking ALF engine. I was running short on time and did not have time to talk to what looked like a couple FF's in the driveway.
  21. Thanks 'mesabill'. I was not aware of that.
  22. Yes 'Fumarin'...El Cajon ran them (I don't know if I recall an ALF truck, I thought El Cajon FD's first truck was the Pierce quint, though I could be wrong). Also La Mesa ran with ALF's pumpers. See pics. Photo credit to RescueKujo's Photo Bucket page. ~Rescue51
  23. Thanks 'RicardoBerg' on that info, I knew Burbank and Pasadena FD's had some Seagraves, but did not know of recent orders. Are Seagraves strong rigs, are they up there with Pierce?
  24. Amazing to see Seagraves being ordered out here in the West.
