  1. Thanks for the correction 'E0001'. Before USAR2 (which was USAR4) when 4's had Heavy Rescue 4 (which, yes, was a KME, I thought that was in reserves), my info was that USAR41 was dedicated and not cross-staffed. Did that possibly change once USAR4 (now USAR2) went into operation? And prior to the KME Heavy Rescue 4, they were running a Pierce walk-around and that went into reserves but I heard the engine failed so they sold that off. Take care.
  2. Sorta sad if you will. It seems the economies of scale forces with tight budgets just don't allow for many independent or volunteer fire houses these days. Hoping the combo of San Diego County Fire Authority and Cal Fire work together with Julian/Cuyamaca and deliver the best possible service regardless of demands. ~Rescue51 https://www.eastcountymagazine.org/julian-votes-abolish-julian-cuyamaca-fire-protection-district-preliminary-count-55-44

  4. I will answer best I can, if anyone has the expertise on it, feel free to correct me: I believe USAR41 has a dedicated staff 24/7, and is not cross-staffed by the truck crew there. USAR41 will operate as a regular rescue too, besides the USAR capacity. Do not know if USAR41 goes to Fs2's, when USAR2 is down for maintenance. I doubt it does, but maybe I am not aware of something in San Diego Fire-Rescue. There is also Rescue44 which is a support rescue to the lifeguards with the over-the-side crane. It's a unique spec-built rig that has been very successful in many rescues. It has also been assigned to calls involving tree rescues. All the SDFR trucks carry rescue gear too, mainly used for t/c's and entrapment. Often the USAR's are assigned but most often cancelled because the truck crew can perform the extrication. 5. That's a beautiful light & air rig!!
  6. 'buckeyefyrfoto' I am with you. In our state, I guess blue is designated only for law enforcement, but I agree, blue is an attention getter. Studies show the blue is more visible during daylight, and red is more effective at night. My opinion is on the rear, it should be a combo of red, blue and an amber directional. On the sides it should be a combo of red/blue/white, and on front the same (red/blue/white). I know on the San Diego Fire-Rescue rigs, the fronts you do get red and white in drive (transmission) and once in park, only the reds are activated. It makes sense at a fire scene as the white are really bright (especially in fog). Way back Alpine Fire ordered two E-One Hurricanes (Chief Downing got those for Alpine, one E17, the other E24 for a station that ended up never being funded). Chief Downing was very progressive. But those rigs had the most advanced new strobe light bars, side lighting, intersection lights and rear warning. It was Star Wars and more with the light show. An engineer on E17 told me he had to turn off all the warning/code lights rolling code, because it was too distracting to him especially if it was foggy. The control consoles back then did not give you enough control to limit what you did not want, it was like all or nothing.
  7. I was curious, Santee FD on their Pierce pumpers (E4, E204, E5, E205), not sure on T4, do not have rear amber warnings or directionals. Only all red (except turn signals). I thought the vehicle code here in California required at least one rearward flashing amber? The medic rigs do have rearward flashing ambers. Just was wondering.

  9. Thank you '619Emergencys'!! I am looking at some information right now, and it almost looks more like a rescue support rig. But I trust what you say sir. Which agency is using it, is it Lakeside Fire? Though Lakeside has R3. That is really a unique rig, I've not seen that in the East County. ~Rescue51
  10. I am seeing they got two (2) new deliveries, same engine, Fs 41's and 42's. Photo credit goes to Pierce's Flickr page. ~Rescue51
  11. It looked to me that they got 4 of these exact type new engines. Photo credit to Pierce's Flickr page. ~Rescue51

  13. Cool. This is great. Not sure how many people in this forum following the interesting drama between the volunteer agency of Julian-Cuyamaca Protection District (JCPD) vs. both Cal Fire & San Diego County Fire Authority. Interesting dynamics. https://www.eastcountymagazine.org/voters-prepare-cast-ballots-future-julian-areas-fire-department-county-announces-full-staffing
  14. Here's a quote from the South Coast Fire Equipment Facebook page: LAFD's First Pierce Aerial Ladder Trucks APPLETON, WI - The Los Angeles Fire Department Aerial Ladder Build Team visited Pierce Manufacturing during November 2015 to conduct a detailed formal inspection of the first of 10 aerial ladder trucks built to LAFD specification by the Wisconsin manufacturer. The apparatus pictured should be delivered to the LAFD at the end of December, weather permitting. The installation of additional equipment, including communications gear, will take place during January 2016. The nine additional aerial ladder trucks from this order, built to identical standards, will be delivered to Los Angeles every 4 weeks beginning in March 2016. With excellent care and maintenance provided by members of the Department, these vehicles could see daily around-the-clock service on the streets of Los Angeles through the year 2036. Based upon the Department's needs and available funding, the LAFD is contemplating an order for an additional five of these Pierce aerial ladder trucks. 15. Speaking of colors, so many So. Cal agencies seem to be going to black over red paint schemes on the pumpers. While many may think it looks good, I believe in our summer heat, it is a bad idea. White over red looks slick to me, why not?
  16. It was Cal Fire's Engine 11 out of Deer Springs. Newer Smeal/Spartan. Yikes. Photo credit to KUSI news.
  17. This from KGTV--10 news: Cal Fire engine rolls over in Bonsall area-- (7:15 a.m.) Cal Fire officials said a fire engine rolled over and crashed into a ditch off Old Highway 395 in the Bonsall area. The incident, which happened at 6:13 a.m., led to the closure of Old Highway 395 between Circle R Drive and Camino Del Rey in both directions. Cal Fire officials confirmed at least three fire personnel were transported to the hospital for evaluation. ~Rescue51
  18. Thanks for sharing--nice looking rig! Chula Vista seems like a fine and progressive agency.
  19. Thanks for the info 'codethree'. Not sure where SQ62 is but I suspect at one of the Fs's where the truck(s) are. It is refreshing to see more agencies housing a squad type rig and run it on the MedAids instead of beating a truck up with all the wear and tear, cycles, and risks of accidents. Plus the squad is a more rapid response rig, suitable for ALS level MedAids or T/C's.
  20. Heard a few years ago a FF for Coronado on T37 say they were not too happy with the rig, it had ISTO disease (In Shops Too Often). Wonder if this new truck has the All-Steer feature. Interesting the new truck for the City of Riverside, looks almost just like Coronado's new Pierce truck for Fs37's. Here is the new City of Riverside truck, in addition to their new TDA.
  21. Nice looking rig! ~Rescue51 Photo credit to Pierce's Flickr page.
  22. Thanks 'diamond682'. Good information. This is why I always rant at running the trucks on so many medical aids, which as you know, Fs6's has incredibly high MedAid volume (Too often BLS level): If T6 was not always running to these EMS calls, it likely would not have had a crash, and it would have so many less miles/cycles on it. I did not know of the recent crash, any details? This is T6's 2nd accident, early on it had an accident blamed on the then activated All-Steer T6 was sporting. La Mesa (also Heartland Fire & Rescue) should place a squad at Fs11's, to reduce the run load on T11. Take care.
  23. At 07:26 this morning, a light plane crashed near the Oceanside Airport. One victim was deceased, the other one alive with major injuries and entrapment. I suspect the airplane was either in landing or takeoff mode, not sure yet. I believe there was some fog around San Diego, so it may very well have been a landing crash. I have not checked the wx for this morning with cloud bases/visibility. Here is the response of units by OFD, information from PulsePoint: Aircraft Crash SR-76 EB & CANYON DR, OCEANSIDE, CA (B217 - CANYON IC) 21R2 / 3311 / AIRETA2 / B121 / B217 / C2102 / C2104 / COPT11 / E211 / E212 / E213 / E217 / MAIR5 / R270 / RA211 / T275
  24. Noticed USAR 2 is housed at the new Fs2's (Little Italy). Is that the former USAR 4? If so, did any rig replace USAR 4 (R4 prior to that).
  25. I think 82's is at the La Cañada-Flintwood station. I was not aware of any LACoFD rigs that had the black over red color scheme. That is interesting. Does anyone know why many Southern California departments are going to black over red? Thanks in advance. -Rescue51.
