  1. Two engines are featured, not sure on assignments to which Fs. San Miguel also has a truck on order, not sure what stage it is at on the build. Photo credit goes to Pierce's Flickr page.
  2. This was a tweet by San Diego Fire-Rescue: ✔ @SDFD "Ten new engines were unveiled Monday morning at our Logistics facility. Tremendous effort on the part of many at SDFD to standardize the fleet & make these purchases. Thanks to mayor and council for their continued support of public safety in San Diego." My understanding is two of the 10 new rigs will be Type-3 brush engines. ~Rescue51
  3. Thanks '619Emergencys'. I am surprised the rig bound for Fs14 is not going to 22's, as E-22 has much more run volume than 14's (I believe). E-16's may be similar in run volume as 22's. Wonder when the new Truck-15, Pierce, will be delivered, and if that will be the primary district rescue...noticed R-46, Ferrara Fire Appartus (once was R-15, and prior to that the old East County Fire's R-18 Crest] ) has been at shops for a while. L&A-46, E-One (which once was R-15 and R-22 (if I have my memory still going good), seems to be sitting idle over at shops too. Back in the day, San Miguel FR was considered a progressive fire agency, as was Santee FD.
  4. The way some of those Uber/Lyft drivers drive their vehicles, I might not blame the LAFD PIO for his actions. Does anyone in this forum remember the famous incident with then Alpine FD's Fire 47, the Ford Crown Vic, and the then chief up there (Downing), event in La Jolla? I remember well and was sorta siding on Chief Downing's side.
  5. Looks like new deliveries of three new Pierce pumpers for Chula Vista, E52, E58 and E60. I did not know Chula Vista had a Fs60. Is that new or upcoming? Photo credit goes to Pierce's Flickr page. ~Rescue51
  6. Piece showing two new identical pumpers for North County Fire Protection District. Not sure of the placement to what stations. Photo credit to Pierce's Flickr page. ~Rescue51
  7. Interesting the County of San Diego purchases both Ferrara and Spartan heavy rescues.
  8. Gotta love the news reporter in field, she said each new Pierce pumper costs $98,000. Wow, we wish it could be such a bargain. Where do I order my own Pierce engine??? ~Rescue51 https://www.10news.com/news/local-news/san-diego-fire-rescue-department-prepares-for-fire-season-with-10-new-engines
  9. This entire episode is made for a mini NETFLIX series called Firefighters. Last I heard, the pumper was still missing, but then other updates indicate it was returned. I believe if it is the HME rig pictured in in article, that has a value more than $300,000, perhaps it was recently relocated from 56's (Julian) to where the old 57's (Cuyamaca Lake) was. I believe 57's was already taken over by the county. So the newer short wheelbase HME, 4x4, is pictured in the news article link below, I've posted in a picture of the older 57's which they call "The Beast" up there, and also the newer E56 (HME), photo credit to Julian Fire Plugs. I was reading quotes by the San Diego Sheriff's Office and it sounded like the deputies were trying to hold off on filing any kind of crime reports, likely protecting some of the old timer volunteers up there, who are not happy at all with the takeover by San Diego Fire Authority and Cal Fire. I hope the rig is returned to the rightful owner(s) and no firefighters end up with any criminal charges on them. ~Rescue51 https://www.firehouse.com/apparatus/news/21082639/missing-apparatus-adds-new-wrinkle-to-san-diego-county-ca-juliancuyamaca-fire-protection-district-standoff-firefighters

  11. Photo credit to Pierce's new deliveries Flickr page. As you may have viewed, Long Beach FD also recently accepted a new Pierce TDA ladder. I wonder between the two of these new rigs, if both will have 'rescue' functions. ~Rescue51
  12. Then Oceanside FD (northern San Diego) had a fire in one of their stations yesterday, believe it was fs#3 on Oceanside Blvd.. I saw on news media it was a fair amount of damage mostly on a 2nd story while the crew of the rig(s) there were already out on another call. News said the ff's will need to be relocated to other stations for the time being.
  13. Engines 14, 16, 21 and 40 shown. Photo credit to Pierce's Flickr page. ~Rescue51

  15. I believe the volunteer FF's are still held-up in the station (56's-Julian, 57's-Cuyamaca was taken over many months back by the county and state). A judge had ruled that county inspectors could go into 56's to assure no inventory/assets are being removed or sabotaged. Here is an interesting article I did not see in a local news site: https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/County-Takeover-of-Julian-Fire-Department-Was-Planned-for-Years-508825221.html ~Rescue51
  16. This is a new one. Wow! Sorta sad, I know some of the volunteer FF's up there. ~Rescue51 https://www.kpbs.org/news/2019/apr/09/volunteer-firefighters-refuse-leave-julian-station/
  17. How is that Arch beacon LED light working for everyone?
  18. I thought on the Quantum that the steps extended/retracted based on door latching/transmission gear? I could be wrong. Wondering if when parked if they stay extended? Looks like a Las Vegas (Clark County) color to me.
  19. While it is tragic Julian is perhaps not going to have the volunteer department (for Cuyamaca too), there is the concept of economies of scale, effectiveness and efficiency. The question is can the combo of Cal Fire & San Diego County Fire Authority's pooled resources, better protect the community up there? When you consider Cal Fire/SDCFA they can staff rigs 24/7 without volunteers responding from their respective locations, and provide many rigs (pumpers, brush, ladder-trucks, rescue, etc.) not only in the area, but from outside the community for major incidents, it seems to make $ense to have Cal Fire & SDCFA. With high-tech GPS, the debate that a replacement agency will not be able to find addresses, is likely not true. I believe the replacement agency has even offered jobs or ride positions to the volunteers of JCFPD, on responses. The other question is whether Cal Fire/SDCFA would use resources from the "community" for other incidents outside area, hopefully they will dedicate or commit a pumper or so, into the community on events requiring strike teams outside the community. Cal Fire & SDCFA have the enormous resources where they can do move-ups in any event, back into Julian/Cuyamaca. The loss of the volunteer agency while sad, seems more about a contest now of ego and control, and not about who best can serve the community on a daily basis--24/7, with professionally paid qualified firefighters who train very often, and with enormous outside resources from the state and county, that can afford to best protect and equip Julian and Cuyamaca. I may be wrong, so let me know if I am. ~Rescue51

  22. Thanks for your understanding 'Jwimig'. I tried to edit my posts to add your Flickr link but cannot edit now--I think there is a time lapse where a post is locked. You are a good photographer--those are great pics you took of rigs. It always amazes me when I see rigs for sale, or in someone's website for new deliveries, and the photographer does not take very good apparatus photos. No perspective. Your photos are good because they feature the most important side (port) in my opinion, with a vantage point of seeing the front too.
  23. Greetings 'Jwimig', I gave the credits to Flickr because I did a Goggle search, but I did not go into Flickr. Sorry for my lacking proper attribution back to you sir. I will go check out your Flickr page. ~Rescue51
  24. Here is the newer USAR2 from SDFR (which was initially housed as USAR4 nearby). USAR41 is older but I believe very similar.
  25. SDFR's former Heavy Rescues starting with the old Pierce as R4, then the 2004 KME Predator. Both no longer in fleet. Photo credits to Flickr. ~Rescue51
