  1. So, there I was, on MTS Line #11 here in San Diego, going westish on Adams Ave, near a park, IIRC. We pass a box ambulance on a ford van chassis. It is primarily white, but with some orange striping, and a big circular logo, I think with the medic star logo within. No clue what company it would have been. And the light bars were those old thin ones. Not sure who makes/made them. But it was red-blue-red-middle-red-blue-red. Other than that, there was nothing out of the ordinary about this unit. At least, maybe, in Arizona. Has anybody seen this unit rolling around San Diego? Did the laws on warning devices get changed recently? I had just never, in California, seen blue on a medic or fire engine (except once, Southern Inyo FPD had taken delivery of a vehicle from NV, and never changed the lights). Though many states have gone that direction in the past, what, ten years (MN, OR, NM, maybe).
  2. I love Demers unusual lighting system. I can't wait to see how these look (hopefully not all amber on the box. I've seen a unit that appeared to be like that). PFD to me has always seemed to lack uniform look more than other agencies. But these look very sharp.

  4. New Station 5 here in Hillcrest is getting delayed due to a "bureaucratic mess-up". http://sdgln.com/news/2015/08/14/new-hillcrest-fire-station-groundbreaking-delayed#sthash.i1ZLQ6ly.dpbs “The financing for this fire station comes from a $120 million deferred capital bond,” Muñoz said. “Because of litigation, the bond was delayed more than six months, causing the initiation of the bid and award phase to be delayed. Because of this delay, we were not able to commit to leaving the proposed site in time to meet the terms of the lease.” - See more at: http://sdgln.com/news/2015/08/14/new-hillcrest-fire-station-groundbreaking-delayed#sthash.i1ZLQ6ly.oyATGQiY.dpuf
  5. Kelowna FD. BC, Canada. This must be from the 70's. Only once have I seen a pic of one of these kinds of lights (the huge rotator just aft of the cab). I'm just curious what brand/model it is. Very unusual. Be interesting to see it on YouTube, see how it looks rotating.
  6. Thought I'd put this here since, strictly, this is a CA/AZ/NV forum, but when did this happen? I remember just a few years ago, Eug. and Spfld had rather different-looking apparatus. I'm wondering what they have now.
  7. Too bad no RFP. I think competition is usually a good thing. Also, I had thought the city was still working on bringing EMS in house. I used to live in AZ where RM also runs fire services.
  8. I live in 5's area, Hillcrest. At our "town council" meeting, they talked about 5's relocation. I understood it was getting somewhat bigger. Is 5 getting a truck?
  9. Yesterday, as I was transiting on MTS route #11 from SDSU into Hillcrest, M69 passed the other way. I had a white paint job. Is the whole fleet going to white, or is this a specialty unit, or...? Just an interesting find. Thought maybe somebody would know.
  10. I saw another one today. Medic 80. I like the change. Not sure what I feel about the current logo, though.
  11. And there it is. I wonder if they are getting any new vehicles. I think it's just B2 (HQ) and E5 right now, plus a seasonal OES engine, maybe? Doesn't look like a very roomy plot, but I go by there quite a bit, so I'll need to see. https://www.google.com/maps/place/4075+Park+Blvd,+San+Diego,+CA+92103/@32.7518331,-117.1462653,3a,90y,89h,90t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sZjsrYheYWKkHQiiki-nWhw!2e0!4m2!3m1!1s0x80d954e65c419233:0x65a7a06c20bf1706!6m1!1e1
  12. Hello, and welcome back. When I initially signed up for another incarnationof this site, I'm pretty sure I was "RMFDbuff", but lost that info, so started anew, as "California Red",which I am now. Real name is Cory. 37 and retired due to disability. I live in San Diego (near Stn. 5 [E5, BC 2]for anyone out that way). Just a fan of the profession, and the vehicles therein. I don't go out with my vidcam and film burning cars until SD Fire arrives, but I do watch that sort of stuff on YouTube, for sure. I'm particularly a fan of vehicles that go beyond engines and ladders. Dive vehicles, brush trucks, dozer transports, etc.
