  1. It's official... "Earlier today, representatives from American Medical Response (AMR) notified me that the transaction to purchase Rural/Metro, Inc. was completed. Rural/Metro is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of AMR. AMR officially assumes management of the City's emergency medical services as of today's date." The City being San Diego. Additionally Rural Metro was just fined $230,000 by the City of San Diego for failure to meet compliance last quarter. Payable immediately. No personal checks accepted.
  2. Five new Pierce Arrow XT engines are on the Pierce Flickr page. Engines 4, 33, 35, 47, and 51. Here is a link to Engine 51 which will be quartered at the new Station 51 in the Skyline area. Should be opening soon. https://www.flickr.com/photos/piercemfg/17112908210/
  3. Correction...1929 was marked as E22, but is now being used as a reserve. E22 is still in 1590. Maybe they had a space issue at Station 22?
  4. New Fire Station 45 will open 10/28/15. Engine 45, Truck 45, Haz Mat 1 and 2, and Battalion 4 will all be located at the new station.
  5. Rear amber lights has never been a law in the State of California. That is a popular misconception. It is common to see, but not a requirement. The only required emergency is lighting is a steady burning forward facing red light. The rest is up to the agency.
  6. NFPA is not a requirement, They are recommendations or "best practice" as some call it. Far from a law, regulation, or rule.
  7. Medic units are now numbered from 1-49. M63 (Airport unit) remains the same. Station cars still carry the number of the station they are assigned to. 70's series are special event units. M8 is the old M229. M720 (Border unit) is now M43. So in summary... M1, 8 (from FS29) 9, 11, 12, 18, 20, 21, 24, 26, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, and 43 (Border unit) are station cars. M2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 22, 23, 25, 27, 28, 34, 44, 45, 46 are float cars. 47-49 are extra units if needed.
  8. Station 51 opens tomorrow morning (8/25/15) at 0800.
  9. E22 has been assigned E47's 2007 Pierce Dash (1929).
  10. That new rescue is going to get beat up fast running medical aids downtown. We all know how well maintained the streets are in this city.
  11. Noticed apparatus 1929 marked permanently for E22 today. Not sure who had the rig prior. Maybe E33?
  12. From the press release... “This acquisition will broaden our ability to partner with fire departments and local government leadership to build increasingly better community health models. It also gives us the ability to offer specialty fire capabilities within our industrial health and safety business lines.”
  13. Notice the slash between Highrise and Hospital. It is a combined nature type. A highrise or a hospital gets the same response. Same thing with Commercial/Apartments.
  14. Blythe Ambulance was purchased by AMR a few years ago.
  15. Program as a splinter system.
  16. 304 and 305? Aren't those Surprise stations?
  17. 45 should be getting close to opening. New truck company to be assigned as well as Haz Mat. 51 will be in a temporary station for now. Haven't heard anything about 3. Seems unlikely. I have not seen it listed on any "wish list" for new capital improvements. Sounds false to me.
  18. Stations 48, 49, and 50 are reserved for specific future stations. Station 48 will be in Black Mountain Ranch, Station 49 Otay Mesa, and Station 50 University City somewhere. Squad 50 should be in service sometime during the next fiscal year.
  19. More than a maybe. I'm hearing it should be in service near the end of 2016 or so. http://www.sandiego6.com/news/local/City-Council-authorizes-over-800K-for-fire-station-in-downtown-San-Diego-265427641.html
  20. SCNOT is Shift Commander notification. PDS is PD Support.
  21. I heard the budget includes staffing for T45 as a new unit. No relocation. All specialty apparatus are staffed by somebody off one of the units at that station. No extra staff unless special conditions exist.
  22. Foam unit is back at FS28. I think they are rearranging vehicle placement in anticipation of new FS45 opening. Hazmat is moving to 45 plus a truck company. Filling it up fast. I doubt a crash rig from Lindbergh is going to 28. Those vehicles are owned by the Airport, not the city. And they don't have any spare ones right now.
  23. WT19 is old Water Tender 40. WT40 received a new WT in 2013. All three look essentially the same.
  24. https://caloesnewsroom.wordpress.com/2015/03/27/cal-oes-transfers-the-first-five-of-twenty-five-additional-type-iii-wildland-fire-engines/ "The local fire departments that received the engines today were Consumes, Folsom City, Sacramento City, Sacramento Metropolitan, and West Sacramento."
  25. OES purchased 25 new Type-3 engines last year. At least some have already been delivered. No idea on assignments.
