  1. I believe in the incident command system a rescue is now classified as a rescue ambulance and a heavy rescue is now a usar , with a designation of type 1 heavy or type 2 medium
  2. that probally won't happen as seagrave has priced themselves out of the market. several departments that used to be loyal to seagrave are now going to other makers because they are to expensive
  3. there are several fire departments in orange county that have bought used ambulances and converted them to tactical ems units, the fire department paramedics are cross trained in swat tactics and respond on all swat calls in these vehicles which have red and blue lights on them
  4. neither rig has federal q sirens on them . they have code 3 electronic sirens
  5. the request and order were pulled 2 weeks ago. going with seagrave
  6. that is orange city texas, not city of orange California
  7. other companies on the new kme engines are 28, 31 62 70
  8. apparently they are . the order the are piggybacking onto is for the Houston- Galveston texas order
  9. this rig was ordered back in july, they are piggy backing on houston Texas's order for seagrave
  10. negative, truck 71 and truck 75 from santa ana will be relaced with tiller quints being passed down. truck 76 is a kme 75 foot that used to be in Stanton. truck 79 is a 100 foot non tiller quint
  11. because it slows down the wear and tear on them and increases the life expectancy meaning you replace them less often. that is done in most departments particually departments that run paramedic engines
  12. according to the shop guy's they will go to 6, 22, 45, 61. my guess is that 6 and 22 go to 71 and 75 since they are currently non quints, those rigs will go into reserve 45's current kme rig will go to 49 and don't know who will get 61's
  13. don't think you will ever see that in California, the chp likes to flex their muscle and let everyone know who is in charge. blue lights on apparatus is very common back east and into the mid west. green is fast becoming another color on rigs in pa. most departments that have roro-rays on their rigs seem to favor the red/white /blue or red / white / green combination
  14. I am sure la city will be going with the arrow xt just as the did with the previous engines. from a use standpoint the impel does not hold up as well as the xt. pierce no longer makes a dash model, the stopped production of them back in 2008. there is a dash cf model which is kind of a recreation of the original arrow from the late 70-80's but is quite expensive. as for the puc , I don't think la city would buy off on them because of the way city does not use pre connects, but pulls the amount of hand line needed and connects it to a discharge on the pump panel
  15. the time frame for delivery is much longer than that, currently pierce is running about 14 to 16 months from the time the rig gets put on the production line to blue floor, factor in holiidays , parts shortages, production line stoppage for rigs to be pulled off . once they hit the blue floor for final inspection, any changes, additions or problems noted will add time in Appleton. once city accecpts the rigs, they have to schedule them to be driven cross country from wisconsion to California, where they will be delivered to south coast equipment in Ontario ca, once there depending on how busy they are (south coast covers all of so cal and usually has anywhere from 30 -50 rigs there for different things) more service work is completed, if problems cannot be corrected there they go back to wisconsion. when completed then they get delivered to the shops where they can sit for additional time until they have time to work on them. just look at the new trucks and see how long it has taken to get them right and in service
  16. last I heard from my neighbor who is a lafd mechanic, there is a lot of warrenty work to do on the rigs that have been delivered, his best guess was September-October time frame. water guy maybe you can confirm this
  17. those light bars are reversible, they are all red on one side, you can flip it around and it is all clear like the engine companies. there are a few departments that have tried them both ways
  18. several of the new engines are out, engines 19 ,35 44 got new rigs . not sure where the rest went. also station 10 in yorba linda is getting a new station, when completed truck 34 , usar 34 and battalion 2 will be relocated to station 10 as it is in the center of the battalion and affords better coverage to all
  19. ok guys, for anyone who has never worked on an apparatus committee. the delivery date given is not set in stone there are a lot of factors that come into play , such as part shortages, production delays, holidays and workload. you don't need to be a genious to know that pierce is a very popular apparatus maker, not just here in so-cal but across the country. when you factor in delays in Appleton, then the rigs need to be driven cross country to so -cal and delivered to south coast in Ontario , where the warrenty work is done, if you've never been to south coast , they have around 30-40 rigs there from across so-cal at any given time for all kinds of work. the new rigs have to be worked into the service bays as they become available along with the already in service rigs there for dealer work. once the dealer completes their work the rigs are delivered to la city shops, to be prepped, training, radio's and this all has to be done , while the shop mechanics must continue to work on the other units there to get them completed and back in service. all this can back up an in-service time as much as a few months.
  20. the kme's for the most part are really improved from what they used to be. pierce has become a real big player across the country, especially on the east coast where a lot of volunteer fire companies are downsizing due to manpower issues and there being no need for a volley outfit to have 4 engines anymore, most going with a pumper tanker concept or a quint concept. with the loss of alf and seagrave pricing themselves out of the market, pierce and kme have become frontrunners in the industry
  21. if you look at Alhambra engines 71 and 73, which are probally the 2 they are replacing, they are quite worn. they are most likely going kme because the delivery time for kme is not as long as a pierce. pierce is crazy busy with new rigs, my cousin's company ordered a rescue pumper, it was almost 2 months from the paperwork signing before it even hit the production line , then another 11 months to be completed
  22. latest info is it will be the engine companies only reopening at this time , no light forces or truck companies
  23. anytime you order a new piece of fire apparatus, it must have factory installed reflective stripping on it to pass final inspection. that is not to say that la city won't change it, but to have stripping put on your rig if you know you are going to change it, why not have what you want put on it to begin with, this stuff is quite expensive
  24. correct , there is another thread relating to the heavy rescue with pics, It sounded to me like they were asking about the new usar unit being built
  25. the manufacturer only put the stripping on that la city requested, why would they change it. that reflective material is not cheap, just the same as people complaining about the new grey ladders on the new trucks, it's what la city wants and they spec'd it
