  1. if the la county bos authorized the purchase , then they will be county fire assets. oes rigs are funded and purchased by the state of california
  2. turf battle been going on for years, ocsd says they provide search and rescue and ocfa provides the paramedic care and transport..ocfa feels different, sadly ocsd feels they can jump the call if they feel like it and nobody is going to tell them not too. the board of supes was supposed to get involved in this , but likely to take a back seat to it all
  3. pierce is still going strong, almost all of the city departments in orange county ca are now pierce, several large cities back east are now going pierce. they have become quite expensive to purchase a single unit unless you piggy back on an order with multiple agencies. I was told they don't always bid due to the fact that they are so backlogged with orders
  4. they have been running the Tahoe's in north orange county for about the last 2 weeks or so, saw it several times on the 57 fwy over the weekend l
  5. waterguy, the original post said CAB roofs were leaking, which I said was very hard to believe since all cabs from the saber to the quantum are all produced on the same production line, and there is no other reports of any weak or leaking cabs. .now the compartments on the tiller section I can see having issues with since they are all custom made in different configurations .I never said pierce builds a perfect apparatus, they don't, no app builder does, that is why they have warrenties to correct isssues like this.
  6. nobody is disputing that la city is a tough customer, they are used to getting things done their way, but there is some missing information missing here that nobody is disclosing right now. every apparatus dealer has problems with new deliveries , that's why they have warrenties to correct problems, which i'm sure pierce will do. we have 10 pierce rigs ranging in years from 1989 up to 2016 , we have had some small issues, but pierce was very responsive and corrected the issues in a timely manner . like I said in a previous post, pierce does not build crappy apparatus, just take a look at how many departments are leaving kme, seagrave, e-one, and so-on and buying pierce. these numbers don't lie. like I said there is more to this story than is being disclosed at this time
  7. guys , don't believe everything you hear. pierce is the # 1 fire truck builder in the us as well as overseas. there are literally hundreds of rigs turned out by pierce every year and have never had a rig returned for a weak roof. the process for cab manufacturing is the same for every rig that pierce turns out, there is no special process for la city so if it was truly a problem with the cab roofs it would be a problem with every rig pierce has turned out across the board. as for the turntable issue, it could be a change order that city submitted after the rigs were completed, happens all the time, new innovations, better parts, I have also heard it is a problem with the bean counters at city hall
  8. well in a nutshell , it is for firefighter safety, there really in no reason that calls need to be publicly dispatched. this brings out all the yahoo's who load the family up in the car and drive to the scene to watch a building burn, don't laugh it happens more than you think. also most news media pay money for pics and video clips of fires hence everyone is pulling up in front of the working fire, getting out of their cars trying to get pics before the fd gets there. don't even get me started on the people with drones, they are the worst, combine this with the fact that a fire apparatus just getting to a scene is a nightmare in itself because drivers won't heed red lights and sirens
  9. it free's the dispatcher up to do other tasks, in orange county in addition to the automated dispatch , you also get a station print out, station vocals, pager activation and mdc activation. it allows for he dispatcher to obtain additional info from the caller, it is all part of the ever changing world of fire and ems dispatching. on a side note all fire agencies in orange county will be going encrypted on their new radio systems in the next year or so making following them impossible unless your sitting in front of a fire station
  10. the rig is medic engine 2 out of the devore station, and the firefighters were able to exit the rig several minutes before the road gave away
  11. hey jordie, settle down, it's apparent you don't like pierce for some reason, your entitled to your opinion but la city would not have gone back to pierce if they were not reliable, take a look around so-cal, there are a lot of departments purchasing them,
  12. going with the puc pump, gives you much more storage room on the engine allowing for more ems , medical and in some cases truck company equipment . another option many departments are going to is the top coffin compartments which is good for out of town gear, and equipment not used everyday
  13. last update I heard was it was still out at station 88, that was about 3 weeks ago
  14. I highly doubt that they would have a new reserve truck, especially since their current front line truck is only about 6 years old. more than likely they are going to ask the city to staff 1 more engine and 1 more truck or a combination of either. santa monica has a booming construction thing going on so the need may be there for additional units
  15. just another city in orange county going pierce, 1 more dept left to go to switch to pierce , not counting ocfa
  16. yes, it was a land swap with knotts, they will give ocfa the land on la palma in exchange for the land where 61 now sits
  17. the fire took truck 61, battalion 8 usar support 61 and a zodiac inflatable boat used for water rescue, engine 61, (on a reserve engine ) was not consumed and was used in the firefighting effort. there were already plans to replace this station in the very near future, around the corner from where it is now, looks like the plans will be accelerated now. the other incident that rescue 51 was referring to was in apple valley, where a fire station out building was destroyed, the arsonist was apprehended near the scene
  18. you are correct Hermosa only has 1 station with 1 engine and 1 medic staffed per shift, going with la county or any other outside agency is only going to give you what coverage or staffing the city bean counters decide to pay for. if the city decides to only pony up the same amount of money they are paying now , the resources will not change
  19. it would be up to either of those cities to want to merge with Hermosa beach. it sounds to me like the bean counters in Hermosa don't want to give the fd the money it needs to service the growing community. I think Redondo and manhatten are probally just fine the way they are currently. Hermosa beach would get more bang for the buck by going la county
  20. while the quantum's are nice rigs, they are the most expensive on the pierce line. the arrow xt's that everybody seems to be buying are also great rigs. keep in mind that the arrow's are built with a lot of input from la city fire, who gets a lot of work as well as abuse on their rigs. with budgets being what they are you just get more bang for the buck with these rigs
  21. it seems to be a trend, in orange county, Anaheim, garden grove , fountain valley have all gone red
  22. truck 6 would most likely respond with heavy rescue 6 since you would have one or both of the tech trucks responding, depending on availability and the type of call. I think truck 61 is also considered a medium duty rescue with additional equipment on it. also keep in mind if it is a remote canyon rescue, truck 34 can respond code 3 to fullerton airport and fly with the copters to the scene
  23. the bottles are the same, size , manufacturer, capacity. the pack harnesses are different on each rig, some are older than others , some with more wear and tear, just depends how busy a certain company is and how much they get used
  24. there are only 2 sutphen 's , at stations 9 and 34 and are usar tech trucks, I heard 45's kme is going to either 59 or 76 .
  25. orange county has run pierce , seagrave ,crown, van pelt ,and now runs kme and a few smeal. a first for orange county is the raised roofs on the new rigs, they started this on the last order of kme engines and are now going with it on the new engines and trucks. once all the new trucks are in service there will be no 75 foot ladders left in front line service
