  1. this documentary on Detroit FD is eye opening . this is a must see . these firefighters are poorly paid and work with beat up equipment in a war zone type enviroment . 93% of the fires these guys go out on are arson . the city is full of vacant homes that have been abandened and lit on fire . their chief is from lafd and trying to make it work . my opinion firefighters dont deserve to have to work like this !! BURN is on netflex
  2. my wife has alot of family that live in detroit and surounding areas . most worked for the automakers and are now unempolyed . this movie shows the type of people we have come to depend on all over our country , our police and fire departments!!
  3. last night at 2300 hrs LA announced the death of a firefighter his name was Sean . no details were given . if anyone knows more please post . LA asked that our thoughts go out to his family .
  4. thanks so much LA wasnt forth comming on the air
  5. about six months ago i was talking to the guys on squad 111 , asking how they liked the dodge ram truck . both gave a good report on the dodge and said that down the road the county will be getting larger trucks . in santa clairta everyone is still using the dodge truck . i am wainting to see what the county comes up with for a larger rig ! they didnt mentiom KME's
  6. good articles on FireEngineering.com on the radios
  7. i was working the bee fire in santa clairta they had me and my partner working a hard closer at copperhill and san franisquito canyon rd . we stood watch for 7 horus . at this time a bat chief had been released ,iasked if he had knock down . he said for the most part . he then said they had to deal withsome " cat eyes" now my guess is that cat eyes are glowing fuels that havent burnt . maybe something like a stump ? i know you wildland guys may use this term . ps is another term for smokers .
  8. from what i have listened to , the truck is the leed piece of equipment on say a structure fire . and the captian is the ranking officer up until the bc arrives . most of the time when in the city i have scene the the truck has been in the leed ! the LAFD has an interesting structure to it . like captian 1's and 2 . when i would see these lite forces i just figured that the pump was there to be used in a ladder pipe operation because the truck had no water . as time has gone by i have learned more .
  9. i just went thru both series adam 12 and dragnet i have enjoyed these shows since i was young boy . i am aging myself but they were new when i saw them . all 3 shows emergency and ad 12 and dragnet . were always favorites . who of us old guys didnt want to be paramedics like john and roy !! RA Cinader and Jack Web got it right .. when i worked on the ambulance we would watch emergency if we were in quaters . we called it continuing education .
