  1. Patrol 51 is also used in the parking structures at Universal/Citywalk as well. However, there is a forward facing red light where the rearview mirror WOULD be.
  2. Stinger, what's your fascination with the lengths/sizes of hose carried on LA area fire apparatus and where they are carried? If your on a department and specing. out a rig, your best bet would be to contact the apparatus mfgs. KME, Pierce for specifics. Not knowing anything about you, people on here and probably dept's.themselves are leery about these types of questions. Just sayin...
  3. Both L.A. City and L.A. County use Ken Porter Auction Co. in Carson, California to dispose of their apparatus (Engines, trucks, squads, sedans, etc.).
  4. Karns, TN
  5. Yes I recently heard that as well from an engineer at 51's. New 95, with direct access to the airfield with one ARFF rig, TF & RA. The city/LAWA want's to widen Century Blvd. At that time, the current 51's would be relocated to the NW corner of the airport, with the Engine and RA.
  6. Definitely NO space constraints at 161's. You can fit an army in there. Both depth and width wise.
  7. It seems odd, that Quint 162 was moved to 161's. I know KME is currently constructing a new 3-axle Quint for the County, that's designed to fit in 162's short station. Who know's.
  8. If the other beach cities and Torrance continued auto/mutual aid, and Hermosa contracted to the County, there's no benefit for additional resources. Because mutual aid comes from other area G departments anyway, including the County. I remember a fire commercial/industrial that Manhattan had a few years ago, Manhattan had rigs from each Area G department, plus L.A. County and L.A. City. Plus, L.A. County has NO station relatively close to Hermosa anyway.
  9. I'm with you EMT_FS46 on this one. I'm really surprised the county would even be interested in doing a survey for Hermosa. This city is not even surrounded by county stations. Unlike the other cities that the county has contracts with ie. Hawthorne, Gardena, Inglewood, etc. I can remember when Inglewood city council put a request for a survey for the F.D., L.A. City was also interested. Because some Inglewood stations could provide better response times to areas in L.A. City. Another story that comes to mind, is that at one time (60's - 80's), a small pocket of County jurisdiction (Manhattan Beach' El Portal section) was covered by L.A. County 21's from Lawndale and the Squad came from 18's in Lennox (before 21's had a squad). A PRETTY GOOD DRIVE for both. It really benefits the firefighters NOT the city. Firefighters make more money, can work at a station closer to home. And more opportunities to do other things in the county. In the beginning the only guys that stay in a newly contracted city, are the engineers (because they know the city). After awhile, none of the original guys are at that station/city it seems. Just my 2 cents. Happy New Years
  10. The Orange City Seagrave TD Heavy Rescue, was NEVER an aerial. Orange City spece'd that rig like that , and built as such. Purchased brand new by Orange City F.D.
  11. Don't know about 2 old rigs going to Van Nuys and 2 going to Ontario, but I see one of the E-One HPR 8X8's (the one without the Snozzle) is listed on Company Two's website (apparatus dealer/broker). Only rig I could see going any where's would be the Oshkosh T-1500, to Van Nuys. Just me guess.
  12. Wonder if the Airport Authority will ever build a new fire station at Burbank Airport. This station has been there, since Lockheed stopped ARFF service there, and left altogether.
  13. Escondido also had a Sutphen tower before the current one. And a Pierce 85' Snorkel before that one. Also had a few Sutphen engines.
  14. I might be wrong, but recall this light also being a telescopic floodlight as well. Made by, I THINK it was made by SuperVac.
  15. Couldn't imagine 80's moving again. Just moved into the new station 2-3 years ago. Seriously doubt if that would take place. Maybe in the next 25 years.
