Phoenix FD gives ambulance order to Demers

18 posts in this topic

I think this will be  the 1st time they had type 1 's,

In 1985 PFD started their ambulance operation using Ford/Collins Type II rigs and then sometime in the 1990s they made the switched to Type 1's. I can't recall the exact year when they began buying Type III's

It seems a lot of the  new Chevy rescues are of OS a lot, I see them using more spares then front line cars

I think they should have looked at   Braun,  PL Customs, Wheeled Coach, Road Rescue, Horton or Braun Northwest

on Ford F-350 or F550  heavy duty chassis or  type 3's Ford Transit chassis

well maybe after Dodge/Demers

the mfg of the body has nothing to do with the chassis. You can have a great chassis and motor but the body can be a POS. Or the opposite. In the case of the Taylor Made's they had years ago, the pickup chassis and body were junk. I guess you don't work in EMS or fire?

Oh yeah, I forgot about those Taylor Made rigs. I seem to recall hearing that PFD had to send all of them back to the factory in Arkansas for warranty work right after they took delivery of them.

Demers is a less expensive alternative to the premium brands you have listed above (with the exception of Wheeled Coach). I don't recall any of the top builders winning a PFD ambulance bid in the past. Btw, none of the builders are offering Ford Transit-based Type 3's yet. The GVW rating is lower than the Ford E-450 cutaway Type 3 chassis. Crestline will have a Transit Type 3 prototype on display at EMS Expo in Las Vegas next month. I'm guessing it will be targeted more towards interfacility transport duty.

I worked for a private ambulance & I was a fire FF years, I drove & worked in the back of many rigs, both gas & diesel  My experience with the Dodge's & Chevy's are they r POS's

I have heard that Demers have a lot of electrical problems, (that should work well with Phoenix's heat)  My favorite rigs to work on were the Braun's, Wheeled Coach's  & Stratus's on Ford chassis's , but that was back in early 90's   "those were the days"

although those horrible pickup chassis are not quite like todays, maybe these Dodge chassis they are to be built on will be better.

I love Demers unusual lighting system. I can't wait to see how these look (hopefully not all amber on the box. I've seen a unit that appeared to be like that). PFD to me has always seemed to lack uniform look more than other agencies. But these look very sharp.

I've seen couple of their rigs in so cal. Interesting over heads to say least. I've also seen couple American la France with similar over heads.

I wonder were the numbers are going to go

I believe Demers applied those graphics at its factory and then that ambulance was sent to the FDIC 2016 show in Indianapolis last week. The other new Demers rigs will probably be delivered to the PFD fleet shop minus the graphics, like this one.
