Gilbert Medic 251 ?

13 posts in this topic

There is a new Ford white Ambulance siting inside Station 251  for over week

Is it a box or is it a van? AMR has a couple of plain white Ford Type 3 rigs in its local fleet. Maybe GFD is exploring a new 911 transport contract with AMR.

Possibly that Ford dealership is contracted to do the maintenance on AMR's rigs. I don't believe they have their own fleet maintenance facility yet.

AMR is slowly taking interfacility transport market share away from R/M. I'm guessing it will take a couple of years before they begin to put a big dent in R/M's business in the Valley.

Gilbert is signing a contract with AMR and Queen Creek is also signing with AMR

apparently RM/SWA  was not honoring the contract, and wanted to cut the number of ambulances,

owed Gilbert over $150,000 for rebursements since the summer 2014,  and RM bankrupt 's were the key

reasons,

That's an interesting development. Glad to hear AMR is breaking into the 911 transport market so soon. I thought it would be next year at the earliest. AMR has 6 brand new Type 3 rigs sitting in front of their Tempe office that are not being utilized. I would imagine those available rigs would allow AMR to start serving Gilbert or QC right away. BTW, the SWA east Valley regional ambulance contract expired about a year ago. Glendale's contract with SWA expired about two years ago. Like Gilbert, Glendale is also having problems with R/M concerning reimbursements. This might compel Glendale to sign with AMR. Glendale withdrew its application to get its own ambulance service CON a couple of weeks ago.

Eventually they will have do there own transporting, Like Sun City, Sun Lakes, North County etc...

These national company's will not be able to honor these very very strict  fire department contracts

and make the profit margins they want.  so many fines for, if they don't make response times, use wrong ambulances,

employees don't dress right, etc..  FD's can use there Medics any time they want too and need to get reburisement's

etc...  Besides RM & AMR who else is there ??

I think it's going to be tough for any more Valley fire departments to get their own CONs, and almost impossible for Maricopa Ambulance. It's doubtful DHS is going to be sympathetic to FDs now that R/M has emerged from bankruptcy and AMR has entered the market. The best hope for FDs is to lobby the state legislature and convince the politicians to do away the the CON law. Until that happens the DHS has to comply with the CON law and must not allow the Valley to become oversaturated with ambulance service providers. It's my guess the additional issuance of CONs in the Valley is about to come to a screeching halt. A few FDs got theirs in the past 6 months but the remaining FDs aspiring to get into 911 transport are too late for the party.

Buckeye is in talks to start their own ambulance service. I was told their presentation went well. Buckeye Valley has too many issues that Buckeye is tired of.

Buckeye has a DHS CON hearing scheduled in August and again in November. It's a long and expensive process. No doubt Buckeye Valley will be at the hearing to oppose the issuance of a CON to Buckeye.

Gilbert city council voted to approve the AMR contract at the 7-30-2014 council meeting. AMR is required to agree not to oppose GFD's CON application. I wouldn't be surprised to see GFD doing ALS transports with its own ambulances before the end of this year.
