Posted May 29, 2015 Well, let's just be happy the City of San Diego did not hand out the contract for paramedic/ambulance service to Ace Parking. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2015/may/28/response-time-emergency-rural-metro-ambulance-deal/all/?print
Posted May 30, 2015 Allowing private EMS to run your paramedic response 100% is not a good idea.
Posted May 31, 2015 Too bad no RFP. I think competition is usually a good thing. Also, I had thought the city was still working on bringing EMS in house. I used to live in AZ where RM also runs fire services.
Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) It's official... "Earlier today, representatives from American Medical Response (AMR) notified me that the transaction to purchase Rural/Metro, Inc. was completed. Rural/Metro is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of AMR. AMR officially assumes management of the City's emergency medical services as of today's date." The City being San Diego. Additionally Rural Metro was just fined $230,000 by the City of San Diego for failure to meet compliance last quarter. Payable immediately. No personal checks accepted. Posted October 30, 2015 Interesting! Is this purchase a good thing? As most of my medical emergencies have been in San Diego, I am more familar with RM, but I did ride AMR a few years ago during a heat wave in Riverside.
Posted November 14, 2015 I've heard on the scanner 2 times recently San Diego medics taking calls in the Lemon Grove and La Mesa, I wonder if now that Rural/Metro and AMR are the same company San Diego medics will be called into AMR contract cities. I've also seen on Pulsepoint AMR units on calls in the city of San Diego.
