Posted April 17, 2014 For clarification this was a Monterey Park engine and an Alhambra truck.
Posted April 17, 2014 Monterey Park piggy backs off L.A. County and buys the same exact rigs.
Posted April 17, 2014 That's a terrible accident. The Pierce tiller looked like it had major front-end damage too. Talk about a set-back for both departments. I'm just glad no one was killed and that there were not more critical injuries. Bet that shook the FF's up and hope for their speedy recovery. It seems with all the GPS/CAD and tracking, someone needs to come up with a device that when any fire rig/PD/medics/EMT, are responding code, a computer software system using sharing resources, could determine if two vehicles are on collision course and alert the engineer/captain. They do it in airplanes (called TCAS), it seems we have the technology emerging to put this together for first responders.
Posted April 17, 2014 Third fire apparatus (both parties) accident this month. Also Daly City, CA and San Antonio, TX

Emergency vehicles approaching a stop sign or red traffic signal MUST come to a complete stop, insure that they have been granted the right of way and then proceed cautiously through the intersection. This is part of 'driving with due regard'. x635 likes this
Posted April 19, 2014 True "bad box"....I agree entirely, but it seems agencies/engineers/chauffeurs, still don't comply with that. When the CHP's MAIT team releases their report, it will be interesting to see what they estimated the speeds of the pumper vs. tiller at.
Posted April 20, 2014 For those drivers of emergency vehicles who still don't comply with their duty to fully stop their vehicle at a stop sign or red traffic signal, they must understand that they are not above the law and can be charged if their actions result in serious injuries or death. Posted April 21, 2014 I Live In 48's In the Harbor right near Providence San Pedro Hospital, and I see quite often or have seen quite often just about every ALS rescue in the harbor blow right through residential stop signs during code 3 patient transports, perfect example being the intersection of Alma St. & 7th St. aswell as others enroute to that hospital, quite dangerous for all involved. Posted April 23, 2014 Recently I've seen a couple L.E. patrol vehicles roll up on their red, slow, quickly activate light bar, accelerate and then de-activate code lights. I believe we call this Code-2 High. Recently a San Diego Police patrol officer cut off a motorcyclist using that technique. The motorcyclist t-boned the new Ford Explorer patrol car, and motorcyclist died at scene. Lots of times department policy or supervisor will limit how many patrol units can respond Code-3, so others wanting to also cover the call, use the Code-2 High technique. x635 likes this
Posted July 29, 2014 Code 2 High reporting that Monterey Park will immediately purchase a KME engine. Wonder if that is going to replace the engine involved in the crash. Also Alhambra appears to be using a LA County tiller (5166) as Truck 71.
Posted July 29, 2014 Monterey Park has been given the option to purshase an LaCo new KME for less cash. Yes, it will replace the OOS engine. Since the county shops does all the PM and repairs on MP rigs. Alhambra is using a County Seagrave tiller until there replacement arrives.
Posted July 29, 2014 Engine 61 has been running in Engine 62's rig and Engine 62 has been using a reserve.

Posted July 30, 2014 Wow, that must have been some impact. Guessing Alhambra is out to bid on a new truck? I wonder if Monterey Park engine had frame and cab damage due to the collision/crash. Appears from the photo there is some body damage as well.
Posted August 3, 2014 https://www.flickr.com/photos/code20photog/13941615305/ Engine 61 was pretty much written off, Truck 71 is being repaired and will be put back into service once repairs are complete.
