Not true.  Bid packages have not gone out to vendors yet.  Bids will probably occur in January 2014.

Waterguy-

What is the general impression from the field on the KME's? Have you experienced any "fleet-wide" problems similar to the 2006 (?) Pierce transmission problems?

KME Engines are overall liked by the field.  They have had some issues, ie frame cracks on a few, rough ride, etc.  KME has taken care of the cracked frames by inserting a frame liner.  Not all 23 had a frame issue.  LAFD shops has changed out front springs to lighter rating.  Front suspensions was specified to heavy for load that is carried.

E46 to E79

E77 to E25

E82 to E101

E89 to E278

E21,26,33,61,87,88 & 93 will become 200 series at their own stations.

well there will be one less bid for the new trucks. American la france closed it's doors today at 5 pm forever. sources are saying there was no warning, the told the employees at the end of their shift 'don't return to work next week'  , damn crappy way to find out you no longer have a job

E-285 is now assigned an 03 Seagrave, not sure of the Shop No. but I'm assuming it is E-55 former engine. And does anyone happen to know what happened to T-85's

06 ALF TDA, they have been in a reserve truck 96 Simon Duplex for 5 or 6 months

KME has been awarded 15 more pumpers for LAFD:

City of Los Angeles Chooses KME

KME is pleased to announce the City of Los Angeles’ Fire Department has awarded KME, an order for fifteen (15) more custom pumpers. The award is part of a multi-year contract from which KME has already delivered almost three dozen engines.
The pumpers will be built on KME’s PredatorTM Severe ServiceTM chassis, designed for high volume fleets and will be similar to units previously delivered to the City in 2011 and 2013. Features include a 450hp engine, 1500gpm two-stage pump, 500/30 gallon water/foam tank, Class A foam system, and a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. The body is custom designed for the LAFD to carry the ladders at a low enclosed height, enclosed suction hose storage, and compartmentation in the hosebed area designed for specialized equipment.

Long term purchase agreements like the one utilized by the City of Los Angeles offer a number of benefits including:
• Assurance of competitive pricing and audit accountability
• Established pricing guidelines for future purchases
• Minimized administrative costs and product price increases
• Minimized training, service and parts inventory expense
• Allowance for competitive bids at any time should the FD choose to do so

For more information, contact KME’s factory sales and service center located in Ontario, California. This operation offers a robust network of sales, parts and service support to the City with both mobile and service center support.

KME is a leading custom manufacturer of a full range of specialty vehicles for military, industrial, commercial, aviation and municipal markets. Additional information on KME can be found at www.kovatch.com or by emailing to kme@kovatch.com. For more information on this press release, contact Phil Gerace, KME Director of Sales and Marketing, pgerace@kovatch.com or 570-669-5174.

Waterguy,

Has there been any changes to reassignments? I see that E-289 has been running with former E-89 (#60729) since at least mid July of last year. Just curious.

Thanks

E-209 was reassigned as in E-9 not to long after the closures back in 2011, E-9's pierce was reassigned as E-89 and E-89's Seagrave

was reassigned as E-289. T-14 went to T-12, T-72 Went to T-3, T-38 Went to T-85, T-58 Went to T-74, E-214 went to E43, E-296 went

to E-212 . I believe all closed Task Force Engines became either the Pump at those stations or became 400 series engines.
