  1. Thanks for that info, wdho. That sounds like a pretty intense probationary period(as it should be). Interesting about a "Probationary Book" that gets signed off. As far as driving a Truck Co., I assume you're taught how to drive and how to tiller it as well.
  2. Thank you, Bill for the kind words. And thank you for all those "War Years" stories. Stay safe out there, Willy "D"!
  3. Thanks, wdho.
  4. I'm not sure about any replacements for Engine 2 and Truck 2, but I believe the maroon ALFs are: Engine 5, Engine 6, Engine 10, Engine 14, Engine 18, Engine 24, Engine 43, Engine 44. I might be missing a few. I know Engine's 1 and 3 had ALFs before they got their new Spartans. Someone from the SFFD may know better.
  5. Great stories Willy "D"!
  6. Thanks wdho!
  7. The SFO Airport is protected by 3 Fire Stations, all located on the airport grounds: SFO Fire Station # 1 is located on W. Field Rd.; SFO Fire Station # 2 is located on N. Access Rd.; SFO Fire Station # 3 is located on S. Area Dr.
  8. I heard a rumor that the SFFD may be putting the street Medic Units back in the Fire Stations, as was done around ten or so years ago. Can anyone confirm this. Right now, they are based out of the hub at Station 49, the EMS Base.
  9. A very poignant episode and one of my personal favorites! I believe it was really one of the first TV episodes to really delve into the tragedy of a Line of Duty Deaths, fire or police-related. Adam-12 has got to be the most realistic police-related show ever made, at least in my opinion. I myself have this episode, along with the entire series of Adam-12 on DVD, as well as Emergency!. I must say that Jack Webb, the creator of Adam-12 and Emergency!, and the famed LAPD Sgt. Joe Friday on Dragnet of the '50's and '60's did an outstanding job overall for his time at portraying realism regarding emergency services, giving the public a first hand look at how life in the fire service or police force really is. He showed the world, really for the first time, what these brave men and women go through on a daily basis, however with no unnecessary added drama like you see today, "just the facts" as Sgt. Friday would say.
  10. Thanks guys, that's just what I was looking for.

  12. I was wondering if, besides the list on LAFD.org, anyone has a list of all units or resources of the Los Angeles (City) Fire Department, i.e. what units are located at what fire stations, how many task forces and light forces there are in the city, how many ALS and BLS (800 series) rescue ambulances the LAFD runs, what fire stations are in what Battalion, etc.
  13. I believe Truck 7 in Long Beach is a Seagrave 100' RM' Tower Ladder: And their rig prior to that: Also, San Francisco has a 100% Tiller fleet for their Truck Co.'s. Back in the '70's, Truck 8 used a 1974 ALF Pacemaker/Pitman 85' Snorkel. The rig is still used by the SFFD as a Fuel Tanker Truck. The rig as a Snorkel can be seen in the film "The Towering Inferno". I believe, up to that time, and since then, the SFFD has not used any snorkels or tower ladders. Here's a picture of the former SFFD ALF snorkel(now Fuel Truck) today:
