  1. San Diego Fire-Rescue has only one tiller and it is a Crimson. Since its delivery it has spent more time at the shop than on front line. There will probably be another tiller eventually at station 45.
  2. San Diego Fire-Rescue Apparatus Purchases for fiscal year 2016 for $15,000,000 Also an agreement to spend another $19,700,000 in fiscal years 2017-2020.
  3. I went by the old repair facility and saw that the 5 new pierce type 1's are being outfitted there. I looks like engine 51 will be first out as their new temp. station opens for business I believe August 1st. Also it looks like the new fire station 5 is due to start construction in August. Probably the start of construction means the building of the temp. station on Park Blvd. first. Fire station 17 is scheduled for January 2016 and station 22 is scheduled for Feb. 2016. I also believe fire station 2 (Bayside station) is scheduled to start construction in the 2016 budget year, which of course started July 1st.
  4. San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Lee Swanson reported on the Union-Tribune website that 2 firefighters had minor to moderate injuries. One was expected to be release from the hospital this afternoon and the other is being held overnight for observation.
  5. Don't know for sure, but I believe truck 45 is going to be a tiller.
  6. San Diego Fire-Rescue proposed apparatus replacement: 1. 9 Type 1 engines 2. 2 Aerial Ladders 3. 1 Hazmat Apparatus 4. Expected delivery March 2016 5. Total replacement costs for apparatus $8,932,849.04 6. Looks like they are paying all cash 7. Contingent on approval 8. 1 aerial Ladder for station 45 has already been ordered.
  7. Yes, station 5 is scheduled to get a truck when their new station is built, that is if they get funding for the crews. They are only relocating temporarily while the new station is being built at 9th and University. Their temporary location will be a couple of blocks north of Park Blvd and University. Stations 17 and 22 will also have temporary locations. As far as I know stations 5, 17 and 22 are schedule for construction in the 2016 budget. That budget starts this July 1st. I would suspect if these stations start construction sometime after July 1st it will take 1 1/2 years plus to complete the construction. As for station 45, they do not get funding for additional staff until the new budget year starts. They are suppose to get a brand new apparatus for truck 45.
  8. Station 3 is not getting a new station, but they are getting some needed modifications (also stations 15 and 8).
  9. One big question is why is engine 33 getting a new rig. They already have one. What happened to engine 22? It can't be that the rig won't fit in the station. They currently have a pierce. Temporary station 51 is just about ready to open. Station 48 and 50 are in the design phase I believe and station 49 is still a few years off, but I believe they have the land.
  10. Station 5 will be located at a now vacant lot located at 4075 Park Blvd. Station 17 will be located on a now vacant lot located at west of 41st st and north of untiversity. I believe construction on both new stations is to start this year.
  11. Heard the other day truck 1 doing a change out. Never heard what apparatus they were changing into. Maybe just a minor problem, but based on the past....who knows. Can't use their old apparatus 1538 for a reserve because it is gone. No longer in the fleet. Looks like truck 28 is in their new apparatus. Also I am not 100% sure, but it looks like they have finally switched all heavy fire apparatus repairs (engines, trucks etc ) to the Miramar Place facility. All others such as BC, utility rigs and autos wii be serviced at the Rose Canyon facility. Don't know what the plans are for the "old repair facility" other than storage for reserve apparatus. This all has to do with "managed competition" which the existing fleet services was awarded at least a year or more ago. The whole process was suppose to have been completed much earlier.
  12. Crimson Truck 1 has been out of service for well over a year from today. Don't know where it has been, but it is now back at shops and has been there for about a month. Truck 21 now has a dual axal pierce 105' apparatus #1904. Last post states truck 35 has this number, but as of a couple of days ago truck 21 still shows #1904. Truck 21's 75' KME is no longer in service and is now at training and at NTC. Truck 28 had a new truck delivered along with trucks 12,20 and 10, but it looks like it has gone back to pierce because it is no longer at shops. Maybe it is at Ontario or Vista.
