  1. Why does LA County insist on using such distant truck companies compared to Auto/Mutual Aid Trucks that are so much closer? Is it a pride thing City vs. County or is it deeper in not wanting to show some Cities they provide services to that they don't have resources close to protect them properly?
  2. Wow those look legit.
  3. Here is one of our Engines a 2012 Arrow XT found in its natural position awaiting the mechanic Monday morning. Ours have been less than desirable the cab leaks all the way down through the a/c unit so in heavy ran water drips through the interior roof lights, the a/c unit has a terrible condensation drain system that leaks water all the time, when you walk on the cab roof it feels like your walking on the hood of a car as it literally bows in when you stand on it, the windows are always coming out of alignment, the back up camera is always going out because of wiring issues, low grade fluid hoses on the motor all had to be replaced early on, the Pierce automatic pressure governor has failed to engage on structure fires requiring us to completely turn off the engines and restart the entire rig, the compartment door sensors are always going out and the light blinks in the cab and the list goes on. We bought Pierce to replace E-One engines thinking we were buying the best but truly found out we were wrong and our engines are not spec'd low bid, we switched to Sutphen and have not been disappointed one bit. I will say I like the Foam System and CAFS system Pierce produces over the Foam Pro System on our Sutphens, Tak-4 independent front suspension rides and handles better than any leaf spring straight axle front end and the paint job and gold leafing are flawless we even buy the Pierce gold leaf for our Sutphens.
  4. Wow a 31 minute run to West Hollywood for Quint 3 from their firehouse.
  5. 100 foot ladders are not purchased for height, they are purchased for reach. Many 3 story commercial buildings are set back at least 50-75 feet from the road or parking lot which eats up almost the entire aerial ladder.
  6. Generally you want your new apparatus driven to your location as a break in and if anything goes wrong the dealer and Pierce will be able to deal with it. I noticed the aerial ladder is completely level all the way down the trailer which is a little bit different than a normal Pierce tiller. These are beautiful rigs I always loved the Arrow Xt cab as Engineer but hated it as a Captain. The drivers area is very spacious especially with turnout gear on and all switches are easy to access. The Arrow XT is also 96 inches wide which keeps the apparatus very narrow which helps driving in traffic, Pierce Velocity's and Impel's are 100 inches. I work on a 2015 Sutphen engine now which has a 100 inch wide cab and body and you can feel the width even though it sounds minimal. The Captain's seat area is completely two small and that is coming from a 165 pound 5'7 guy.
  7. I've noticed the OCFA still lays 3" duals for supply lines. It seems like everyone else is so cal is using 4" and 5" inch LDH. Is there a special reason for this or do they simply prefer laying duals?
  8. It looks like they purchased a new tractor.
  9. While searching for LACOFD pictures I came across what appears to be an old OCFD type 2 engine being used by LACOFD marked as Engine 271. Does anyone know the back story on this engine? https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7123/7126263491_71b08f9ca3_b.jpg
  10. After looking at some pictures of lacofd's tiller quints I noticed some don't have waterways pre plumbed why is this? Also are some of them for some reason 75 foot ladders?
  11. So lacofd self dispatches to city fires in certain area's?
  12. Hey guys I was wondering what auto aid agreements exist between city and county and how the departments work together. After looking at a map it appears county has some stations that are completely surrounded by city resources and the opposite with city almost being surrounded with county resources.
  13. Bye bye task force and light force concept if they are looking to reorganize. It's an awesome concept but sending a tiller truck and pumper to a medical emergency is about the least efficient idea ever. If they want to save money tiller quints would be a good start.
  14. Are LACOFD light forces always a two piece company like an LA City light force or are they simply calling a fully staffed engine and truck a light force when responding from one station such as Light Force 170?
